9 & 10 Robotics

Our Year 9 & 10 Robotics class is hard at work building their Lego Robots, ready for the end of term! Over the course of this term, students have been learning about some core programming and robotics concepts, as well as the ways that robotics exist and interact in our world. Finally, they've been applying their learning to design and build a robot that could help to address a labour shortage in an industry of their choice.

9/10 Systems Engineering: Mechanical Toys

Our Year 9/10 Integrated Systems Engineering class have been working hard the past couple of weeks on applying what they've learnt this term about mechanical concepts and components, like simple machines, and types of energy, motion, and forces.

To show their understanding of these concepts, students have had to design and plan a mechanical toy - something that works without any batteries or electrical parts! This week, they've started building, and it's been very exciting to see their ideas come to life. Students are designing wooden fidget spinners, rubber band- and balloon-powered cars, miniature claw machines, and even a rotating theatre!

It has been fantastic to see them getting engaged and onto the tools, and making use of a range of materials and equipment. We can't wait to see how their toys end up!

Unit 2 Systems Engineering

Our Unit 2 Systems Engineering class reviewed and applied some of their learning with a mix-and-match activity this week. Students were given the names, descriptions, and circuit diagram symbols of the different electronic components they've learnt about this term and had to try and match them all up. It was a great opportunity for some quick formative assessment, discussion, and revision, and they got a neat summary table at the end to stick in their books as a reference!
