We started this term with a new RE unit called ‘Breaking Down the Barriers.’ So far this week students have explored the concept of a just community. We looked at the connection between human dignity and rights. All over the world many people are working hard to make the world a better place. With God given dignity, comes rights and responsibilities. Rights are things that help make life great. But since we all have rights, we also have responsibilities.
Students discussed how they could individually uphold the dignity of others then wrote their responses as a tweet:
Students also explored ‘The Beatitudes.’ The Beatitudes are a set of teachings by Jesus. The word Beatitude means having an inner joy and peace. To be fully human. The Beatitudes are about changing the way we live. The Beatitudes challenge us to the needs around us.
The students worked in pairs to take a line of the prayer each and explain what they think it means in today’s world, describe a person in the world who demonstrates that Beatitude and create a symbol which represents the line of the prayer.
