Holy Saviour School Bulletin

Dear Families,

We are now past the halfway mark of term 2 with 5 weeks remaining until the next school holidays. There is still quite a bit happening this term, including staff commencing work on your children’s reports, and the opportunity for you to attend Parent/Teacher Interviews in the final week of term, among many other things. Be sure to check out the calendar of events to see what else is happening this term.

School Closure Day

A great day of learning was shared by staff today. We spent much of the day digging deeper into the MACS Vision for Instruction, exploring more around the Science of Learning, Cognitive Load Theory, and Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction. We have already started implementing many new ways of teaching and learning in the classroom, and over the year we will continue our learning in these areas and embed them as part of our daily practice.

Principal Cuppa & Chat

The next Principal Cuppa & Chat will be next Thursday 30th May @ 2:30pm, just before pick-up, please put this date in your diary. These will be an informal way for parents to catch up with school leadership over a cup of tea and coffee to discuss Holy Saviour. There will be no agendas or minutes, and (almost!) any topic is open for discussion. The only protocol of the meetings is that you cannot denigrate any child, any family or member of staff. The hope is that these forums will be a great way for parents to understand the thinking behind school decisions, programs and protocols.

2nd Hand Book Sale

Next week we will be holding a second hand book sale in the shared area before and after school. All books will be a gold coin donation.  The book sale will commence from Monday 27th May and conclude on Friday 31st May.

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday all classes participated in  National Simultaneous Storytime.  This year's book was Bowerbird Blues, written and illustrated by Aura Parker.  The children enjoyed the story and also participated in lots of activities and crafts about Bowerbirds. Please check out their amazing work on display around the library windows.

Book Club

The Edition 4 Scholastic Book Club catalogue was sent home yesterday Please submit all orders by Friday 10th June, 5pm.  To view the catalogue online and place your order please click here.

Change of Date - Holy Saviour & St Timothy’s Parents Social Event

Over the past few weeks, we have been advertising a Holy Saviour/St Timothy’s parent event. We are trying to secure an offsite venue for this event and have decided to push the event out to early in Term 3. We will advise all details before the end of this term, this will be a child-free event, so please organise your babysitters!

Throne of Games

Building Works

Over the next few months, there will be quite a lot of building work happening across the school in preparation for next year. Some areas will be a simple patch & paint, while other spaces will be completely stripped back and refurbished. We aim to cause as little disruption to classes as possible throughout this process. Some classes will move locations short term so that we can give the builders full access throughout the process. Thank you for your understanding.

 Prep 2025 Enrolments

We have had great interest in Prep for 2025, as well as other year levels, and we’ve had a good number of enrolments come through already. If you have a child who is eligible to start Prep in 2025, please submit your enrolment at your earliest convenience. This will enable us to develop a clear picture of classing and group sizes for 2025. Enrolments for 2025 are to be made through the Emmaus portal

School Tours & Open Days

Vinnies CEO Sleepout

Next month, I’m participating in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout. By going without shelter for one night, I hope to raise at least $5000 for people experiencing homelessness. The cost-of-living crisis is hitting Australians hard. Right now, homelessness is growing across all demographics. And while I’m experiencing just one night of mild discomfort, there are thousands of people who experience it every night. With your donation, more people can access homelessness support services including accommodation — so they can start to rebuild their lives. Please donate to my Vinnies CEO Sleepout today! https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/steve-evans

Calling all Netball Players!

St Timothy’s netball team currently has 8 players though it looks like they might lose a few next season when they swap to playing on Saturdays. If there are any Holy Saviour students who might be interested in starting up or joining a second team, they’d love to have you on board. They are mainly looking for Grade 4s and Grade 5s, but could easily accommodate a Grade 6, or even a Grade 3 if they were really keen. The games are currently played on Monday nights though this will change to Saturdays in July. The games are held at Sportslink in Vermont. Please contact Laura Di Scala, via email or phone, for more information. (laura_discala@outlook.com 0412782369)
