As we head in to the colder months, a reminder to make sure all clothing is named (extra important for the Grade 6s with their nice new jumpers!). The Learning Centre regularly becomes a hub for lost property.
What an absolute blast the Grade 5 students had at Sovereign Hill!! 3 days of travelling back to the 1850's, learning about the lives of those who lived on the goldfields and the pure of excitement of striking it rich with gold! Some special mentions to our wonderful parents helpers and extra staff members who assisted over the 3 days. Take a look at some of the photos capturing the wonderful experience, as well as some student reflections on the camp.
What were the highlights of Grade 5 camp?
The gold panning was a blast because even though it took time and patience, I eventually found gold and the feeling was amazing!! - Akshara 5DW
The memories that I made with my friends and dressing up as part of Sovereign Hill was such an amazing opportunity. - Miral 5RC
What was the experience of being a student in the 1850’s like?
I thought it was fun because we got to wear clothes from the olden days. It was also exciting because we got to learn how to write in Copper Plate script - Jonty 5SD
Being a student in the 1850's was a lot harder and tougher than a student in 2024! - Jaxon 5CB
If someone wanted to go to Sovereign Hill, what would you recommend to do and why?
I think you should go to the mine tour because you would experience the conditions the miners had to go through to find gold. Even though it was very dark, there were loud noises and water dripping in some places, it was interesting to see and hear what it was like. - Max 5DW
I would recommend you to go to the blacksmith so you can buy a personalised horseshoe with your name on it! The lolly shop is full of delicious treats and you can even go and see them make fresh raspberry drops! - Heidi 5KM
The grade 5 students spent some time with their grade 1 buddies playing various games from 1850's. It was wonderful to hear the laughter, see the smiles and share some of the games and entertainment enjoyed during that time.
Parents would have received an email yesterday regarding our upcoming Winter Sport days. Students will need to have permission and payment to be able to attend (please complete this on Compass). We are very lucky that every single student has the opportunity to participate in a sport, however some sports have more students trying out than we're able to have in a team. We understand the disappointment some students feel if they don't get to play their first choice sport, but at school we often talk about resilience and how we don't always get everything we want. For Grade 5 students, there is another opportunity to try that sport next year. We often find students who miss their first choice sport have a brilliant day trying another sport and learning new skills.
Year 6 students have recently planned and made their own board game to show their knowledge of fractions. The students really ran with this task and produced some fantastic games. Students enjoyed playing each other's games and were able to reflect on their own game. Some found they had made it too complicated, others too easy, some needed more rules, some needed less!
