Reconciliation Week Celebrations

Last week we celebrated Reconciliation Week with lots of art experiences, songs, cooking and stories.  We cooked some delicious damper and the children enjoyed this traditional bush tucker! We sang Ngaya Naba with Clapsticks, the Clapsticks Song, Inanay Capuana.  We read BowerBird Blues, Tom Tom, Welcome to Country, Come Together.

Our 3 YO groups wrote their own Acknowledgment of Country (in the tune of Feres Jacques)

Wear it Yellow

Wear it Yellow Day was a great way to engage the children in First Nations culture and knowledge, whilst raising money for First Nations Children.  We thank everyone for their donations.

In our programs we aim to achieve the folllowing and continue to add to this each year:

Respect

Awareness: For the Children to be able to name and know the Country they are on.  • • Reconciliation: Each day our children undertake the Acknowledgement of Country. Over time build and grow Acknowledgements based on growth and learning around First Nations truth and history.

Recognise

Awareness: Fly the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.

Relationship: Build a communal garden with native Australian plants, herbs and bush food;

Road Safety Incursion

The 4 YO's had an incursion on Road Safety.  This was a great way to discuss being safe while out and about.  The children did a great job practising how to use a crossing and making sure to look both ways before entering onto a road to check for cars, trucks, bicycles and motorbikes.

Mushroom Inquiry

On Monday morning the children in Lasiandra headed outside and discovered some mushrooms had grown in our yard.  This led to a great inquiry project with lots of learning taking place.  The children got out books to find out what type of mushrooms they had found, and there were quite a few different ones! They looked at the mushrooms under microscopes.  They drew them and found out what the different parts of mushrooms are called.  It was fantastic to see so many of the children engaged in this project with so many questions.

School Readiness Funding (SRF)

Since 2019, school readiness funding has provided needs-based funding to funded Victorian kindergarten programs with the aim of supporting the learning and development of all children. All funded kindergarten programs in Victoria have received funding to support children’s development in the priority areas of:

  • communication (language development)
  •  wellbeing (social and emotional)
  •  access and inclusion.

Why are allied health professionals attending my child’s kindergarten?

Allied health services engaged by the Department of Education work collaboratively with educators, staff and families from eligible kindergartens as part of school readiness funding. Speech pathology, occupational therapy and psychology professionals work with educators, staff and families to share specialist skills and knowledge that better support the educational needs of all children. Evidence shows that when educators and families incorporate these strategies into everyday learning experiences it results in improved learning and developmental outcomes for children, especially their language development and social and emotional wellbeing.

Starting Friday 7th of June we will have some Allied Health Professionals from Health Abilities working alongside our educators.  During their visits they will observe the children and have conversations with the teachers about how the group can be supported in areas of need.  The teachers will implement the strategies suggested and at a later date meet back with the Allied Health Professionals to discuss how things are going and what they can do next.

If you have any questions please reach out to your child's teacher.
