The Department of Education has launch a new online enrolments portal that families with 2025 Foundation students can use to enrol students.
Early enrolment greatly helps our staffing and planning for 2025!
Thank you to volunteer organisers and staff for facilitating our two recent open mornings.
Last week a large crowd of mums and special people gathered in the hall for a coffee and some craft before heading off to visit classrooms for the first session of the morning. Thanks to all who attended, as well as to Noel Jones for providing the coffee van. Special thanks to Carolyn for providing the craft activities too. Check out the What's Happening page for more and for a couple of snaps of the morning.
Yesterday saw our annual Education Week event, this year centred around the theme "Focus on STEAM". It was lovely to wander around to classrooms and see parents, carers and family members engaging with student activities across the school.
A parent on a tour recently asked me how our school prepares our students with the skills required for the jobs of the future. I was proud to speak of our school as a leader in the field of STEAM among primary schools, alongside our philosophies of providing students with fundamental mathematics and literacy skills that allow them to achieve success with more advanced skills such as coding and considering design principles.
Thanks to our talented Robbie Mac staff for putting so much time and effort into preparing the activities for families to engage in on the day, as well of course to family members and friends for coming along and interacting with students in such a positive and enthusiastic way.
As mentioned in various communications and forums, over the last 12 months, our school has been implementing the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support approach. From https://www.vic.gov.au/SWPBS, "School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is an internationally recognised approach with an extensive evidence base that is shown to improve behavioural, wellbeing, and academic outcomes for children and young people."
Part of the SWPBS approach is an acknowledgment system that leads to whole-class and whole-school acknowledgements that students have a say in choosing. When students are observed displaying positive behaviour in line with our school values, they receive points that are added to their class and the whole school tally. On Wednesday, we had our first whole school acknowledgement, with a movie afternoon the chosen activity.
Well done to all students for working together to display positive behaviour and achieve our whole school acknowledgement!
Thanks to Stephen Roche and our ND Parents & Carers group for this afternoon's presentation on the upcoming Department of Education Disability Inclusion program, to be implemented in schools in our network from 2025.
If you are interested in hearing about this program and were unable to attend, you can find out more at https://www.schools.vic.gov.au/disability-inclusion
Our ND Parents & Carers Group is a group of parents and carers of children with neurodivergences. This group meets a couple of times each term and would enthusiastically welcome any other parents and carers who may like to join them. Contact Stephen Roche or the school office to find out how to join.
