Principal's Message

Wawa, Wominjika.

Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us. We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea

Our school community participated in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea today, an annual event that raises funds for the Cancer Council. Special thanks to Adam Todd, Milly Bridges, our SRC Captains, Ishaan & Avina and to all our staff, students and school families. Our SRC team will provide an update on the final fundraising tally.

5/6 Sports Round Robin

Congratulations to our students who participated in the Winter Sports Round Robin last Friday. Our T-ball A Team were successful in advancing to the next stage of competition and we received excellent reports about the respectful and sporting demeanour that our students displayed.

Congratulations also to six students (Wesley, Bonnie, Edward, Henry, Jed & Abbie) who have progressed through to the Division Cross Country at Ruffey Lake Park on Monday. We wish them all the very best!

Traffic Safety

We continue to receive reports of dangerous traffic behaviours at both front and rear entrances to the school. Changes to the parking and road signage at the rear of the school are pending and we hope these changes will contribute to improved safety for all members of our school community.

Cyber Safety Project

On Monday, our students from Year 1 to Year 6 will take part in the Cyber Safety Project incursion. There is little doubt that supporting our children to be safe online is a significant challenge forschools and parents - we continue to hear more and more about these challenges in the media on a regular basis. The Cyber Safety Project supports our staff and students in this space, with teachers continuing this work throughout the year. Please take some time to discuss the sessions with your child.

Kind regards
