Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 7, Term 2

🌱LITERACY

In Literacy this week, we are continuing with the texts Black Cockatoo and Us Mob Walawarru as the basis for a novel study.

Grade 6's will be comparing fiction and non-fiction texts around a historical event. They will also be using their knowledge of complex sentence structure and understanding of vocabulary to create a factual recount about the historical event.

Grade 5's will be exploring sentence types and structures in order to write more complex sentences with correct punctuation and elevated vocabulary. These include statements, questions, exclamations and commands.

What you can do at home

Help your child to set aside time to read - preferably every night. This will help them build important learning habits. Your child now has access to Reading Eggspress, to help with adding variety to their range of text choices.

🌱 NUMERACY

In Numeracy this week, we will be continuing to apply our understanding of multiplicative thinking through Measurement. Students will be converting between known metric units and finding the perimeter, area and volume of simple and complex shapes.

📸 LEARNING SNAPSHOT

Students will be completing a garden design challenge to showcase their learning. Look out for it on Showbie!

What you can do at home

Students have access to set multiplication and division questions on Mathletics. Please encourage them to achieve 1000 points each week.

🌱 CBL

In CBL, students will begin working in mixed groups across the level to begin the challenge 'Promote and embrace Wurundjeri culture, now more than ever'. They will respond to the challenge in an area of their personal interest following our time at Clifford Park.

PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE

Your child should have now received an information page and login details which will set them up to participate in the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge.  Every child in the school has been registered but participation is optional.
