Level 1 & 2 Wonga Weekly

Week 7, Term 2

📚 LITERACY

In Reading, we  will be unpacking the meaning of the text, 'Somebody's Land' to help comprehend the concepts that are linked to reconciliation.

In Writing, we will focus on building a persuasive piece that suggests reasons why people should look after our country.

In Phonics, we will be focusing on the digraph 'sh'.  When these two letters are found together they make one sound, as in 'shot', 'sharp' and 'crash'.

What you can do at home

Talk to your child about the impact of pollution on our environment. The conversations they have with you will help them to develop great persuasive arguments to use this week during our writing sessions.

🎲 NUMERACY

This week we will continue our focus on how addition and subtraction are connected. Finding the missing number in equations will demonstrate how these operations can help each other out.

We will also carry out data collection; auditing the amount of rubbish we find in our playgrounds, using a range of categories to sort and display the data, then interpreting the data and make simple inferences.

What you can do at home:

Encourage your child to explore Maths Seeds (Gr 1) and Mathletics (Gr2) to help them practice simple mathematical concepts. Opportunities to practice fluency in numeracy will build skills that your child will use in the future.

You can find passwords for the above-mentioned programs inside the front cover  of your child's Reading Log.

🌄 CBL - Country

This week students will consider the question, 'How can we care for Country?'

We will explore the ways in which humans make footprints on our earth.

PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE

Your child should have now received an information page and login details which will set them up to participate in the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge.  Every child in the school has been registered but participation is optional. If you would like to participate, follow the steps outlined to enter the books read.
