Around the Classrooms

Performing Arts

The Performing Arts classroom has been breaming with beautiful voices, fantastic dancing and some academy award winning acting across all the year levels.

The Preps have been working on both their rhythm and their pitch.  They've been learning about Ta's, Ti-Ti's and Zah's and how to clap (or not to clap!) them through a game called poison rhythm.  Their singing has been sensational, also learning how to sing and sign using Auslan to the song Sing a Rainbow.  Students have been moving and grooving to the song Calypso (pictured with ribbons).

The 1/2's have been learning improvisation skills, both in music and dance.  We've been workshopping moves to the song "Wellerman" and learning about Sea Shanties and the Hornpipe as this will tie in with a performance later in the year.  Students are about to start improvisation on glockenspiels and xylophones over a pentatonic scale.

The 3/4's have been sensational singing their Mary Poppins songs in preparation for those who are in the Production.  Their enthusiasm for dancing and singing was so evident when, after dancing Step In Time on repeat, many continued asking to do it again and again.  We've also been dipping back into recorder learning the notes C and D and I can't wait to start piano very soon!

The 5/6's have only got one more chord to learn on the ukulele before they can play many of the pop songs in existence.  They are learning how to transition between chords so the song can be played continually and smoothly.  They've also been working very hard learning the Mary Poppins choreography and songs. I'm particularly impressed with those students who are not in the production but continue to display excellent attitude and enthusiasm in performing arts class by participating to the fullest extent.

Special shout out to those parents helping their students learn songs or lines at home for Mary Poppins - I am seeing the results in rehearsals and the students are blowing me away with their abilities!  Thank you for your continued commitment to your student's growth.

Happy singing, dancing and acting!
