Foundation Classroom News

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to the Foundation News for this fortnight. We have had a fantastic 2 weeks of learning and fun!
Ronny and Friends Adventures
The Foundation students have hosted children from Country Kids and the local community to our Ronny and Friends Adventures sessions on Friday mornings. The children have enjoyed exploring and playing in our Indigenous Garden, playing sports and fitness activities and a range of learning and sensory activities. It has been wonderful to see our students showing the 3Rs and being so welcoming to our visitors. Well done everyone!
Maths
We are now focusing on the numbers from 10 - 20. Students have used concrete materials, such as counters, to make collections to 20, counted out groups of blocks for the numbers between 10 and 20 and have begun to partition collections. We have also used 5, 10 and 20 frames and our whiteboards to record our answers and to practise writing the digits.
Partitioning a collection is when we separate the total amount of blocks into groups. For example, we can partition 10 blocks into groups of 5 and 5, groups of 8 and 2, groups of 7 and 3 and so on. Developing these skills will help your child to progress towards completing addition and subtraction equations. It is also a means to build their number skills which they will use througout their lives.
