Drama

The Year 9 Drama course aims to provide students with a range of skills, techniques and processes in organising drama elements to structure performances. They use various starting points to generate and expressively develop ideas when making and presenting drama. Students plan, rehearse and present drama individually and in groups to a variety of audiences.
The units studied in this course include:
• Greek & Ritual Theatre – the origins of theatre; use of mime and body
• Commedia dell'Arte – comedy and the use of mask
• Kabuki Theatre – traditional Japanese theatre; stories told through props, expressive movement and mask.
Within the context of these units, practical activities are used to develop the students' dramatic skills, focusing on the development and understanding of expressive movement and voice, role, characterisation, improvisation and collaborative group work. Students also learn to understand how drama is used to meet specific cultural and historical purposes and understand how these contexts influence their own drama experiences.
