This course is designed to foster exploration and creativity as students build up a set of skills and knowledge of electronics and robotics. The theory components of the course are intended to give students a deeper understanding of the hands-on elements and thereby facilitate richer engagement and greater achievements in the practical projects.

Developments in electronics and robotics are progressing particularly quickly and there seem to be endless applications in these areas. The Electronics and Robotics elective enables students to understand developments in these areas and to develop the skills to design and construct their own electronic and robotic applications. Specifically, the students will gain an understanding of electronic components and their uses in sensor and transducer circuits, develop skills in soldering and circuit construction and develop software programming capabilities that enable the programming of microcontrollers in both electronic and robotics applications.

Students will become familiar with input and output circuits and the function of the components within them. They will learn basic soldering skills and gain experience in computer programming in a number of different environments, including Arduino boards and a number of different robotics applications. The students will work on open-ended projects in each of these areas to consolidate and expand on the core content.
