Term Two with the SLC
Welcome to a new segment in The Herald that gives the opportunity for a student from our SLC to share reflections on the term that has been.

Term 2 Launched!
After the uncertainties of Term 1 and all of us SLC execs getting relaxed in our roles, Term 2 launched smoothly and amazingly. The team had comfortably got stuck into their roles, and the well-oiled machine was starting to chug along into the new term.
Our main focus for Term 2 was Creation Day which commenced on Friday the 30th of May. This day was a new idea that was implemented this year by our team and centred around celebrating and thanking our God for all that he’s made for us and all the blessings that he has gifted us. We encouraged the students to wear second hand clothes and for the teachers to work outside, not using power. And even though a lot of classes partook in this encouragement, one class stood out for us seniors.
A Year 11 and 12 Maths class used sticks to create graphs, as seen in the picture above, to have a fun and environmental experience for Creation Day. This was the exact idea that us, the SLC and the school, encouraged in order to really appreciate and take in God’s creation.
Another element of Creation Day was a gold coin donation towards a charity. The SLC decided together on a charity to fundraise towards, and we chose the international (and national) AROCHA, which is a network of Christian organisations that focus on environmental research, education and looking after creation, all while helping people get to know God and who he is. This charity was deemed the perfect fit. All together, we raised $206.20, and that total was sent to the AROCHA organisation who was very thankful that they were chosen.
One of the main elements of Creation Day was an exciting competition that centred on the arts. Around our school, we have blank water fountains, and so the idea to decorate them came about. This was then put into action, inviting students to create artworks inspired by water, God’s creation and Psalm 104.
There were so many amazing and talented artists who produced incredible artworks that not only were a reflection of God's beauty but an amazing way to display their beautiful talents. Below are the winning artworks.
With four winners in total, the water foundation competition was a success!
A final part of Creation Day started at the beginning of the week on the Monday, where house-coloured bins were placed in the Primary School area and each house collected rubbish to fill up their bins and get house points.
This fantastic activity drew the end to the fantastic Creation Day.
With the term wrapping up and the holidays coming closer and closer marking the end, a final point that I would like to leave you with is a verse from the focus of our Creation Day, Psalm 104:31-33.
May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works—he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Let us forever be reminded to praise the Lord and take in all the good things that he has gifted to us and blessed us with.
Amen.
