It was great to see so many parents/carers and students coming into school for their Student Support Group meeting. These meetings provide an opportunity for parents/carers to hear from the classroom teacher about your child's progress against their Individual Education Plan goals. Students are invited to participate in these meetings as well. Where this is not possible, teachers may include student work samples or photos/ video of your child engaging in their learning. We hope you have found these meetings both positive and informative. It is not too late if you haven't had a meeting yet, you are still welcome to contact your child's teacher to make a time to meet. Following these meetings, teachers will be completing end of semester reports which will be sent home at the end of the term.
It is great to see so many parents using our drop off and pick up zone at the front of our new administration building. Having separate driveways for cars and buses has made it much safer for our students and families transitioning into school. A reminder to all drivers that the maximum driving speed in the school grounds is 5km/hr and that the driving speed on Belmont Road East at the front of the school is 40km/hr. Please make sure you travel carefully as you drive in these areas. It is very important to us to keep our students and all members of our community safe.
Our first Student Council meeting for 2025 will be held in a couple of weeks. At Croydon SDS our student council is made up of our School Captains and House Captains who are from our secondary and transition sections of the school. Student council provides an opportunity for students to be involved in decisions about their school. They may make recommendations about learning programs, special activities, uniforms and school facilities which may be shared with the parents and community members of the School Council. Student council is a great way to develop student leadership, voice and agency.
We know that students and families are really looking forward to our swimming programs starting. Our pool has now been handed over and there are a number of documents we are working on as part of the Maroondah Council pool registration process. A member of the council team is visiting our pool next week to inspect for the registration.
Just a reminder that all students need to have a completed parent permission for swimming for 2025. This can either be completed online via Compass or on a paper copy.
Students who have Epilepsy are also required to have a completed Swimming Medical Clearance form which is signed by a medical practitioner and a parent. There are still quite a number of families who have not completed these permissions. Please check with the office if you need any help with this.
