Students across the school enjoyed participating in various Education Week activities last week, from creating cultural pieces of artwork to the drumming incursion. It was great to have some parents and carers attend the drumming incursion on Friday to enjoy watching our students create some beautiful African drumming music and dance.
Today staff embraced the opportunity to choose an area of work or learning for themselves to focus on. Many teachers opted to work on preparing for and writing student reports, while Education Support Staff participated in a range of learning of staff delivered Professional Learning workshops including, Communication (PODD and ACC), ICT support, and Positive Behaviour Support. Other Education Support Staff visited other schools to observe good practice; Staff went to Vermont South SS, Yarra Ranges SDS, Croydon PS and Endeavour Hills SS. This afternoon, all staff met back at school to engage in a two-hour Team Teach workshop focusing on our whole school proactive and preventative behaviour support approach. This session was facilitated by four of our own staff who are qualified Team Teach trainers.
Thank you for supporting the day by making other arrangements for your child. We hope the day off school has provided an opportunity for a restful break. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday.
Earlier this week, school council reviewed and endorsed an updated Camps and Excursion Policy.
Please remember all of our school policies can be found on our school website and on Compass under the School Documentation tab.
We have begun work to develop a new website. A team (staff members and a parent) have been meeting to review our current site and identify the layout and content that we would like to have in our new one. We have investigated various website developers by looking at their work through other school websites. Our next meeting will be with a potential website developer to discuss our new website plans to see what they can offer. We will be including a whole school drone video and photos of students engaging in various activities and programs. We also hope to capture student voice through them sharing what they like about our school.
We have started to develop a new ICT Acceptable Use Agreement for all students at Croydon SDS, as required by all Department of Education schools. Classroom teacher, Justin is leading Digital Technology use across the school is developing our user agreement by consulting with various teams in the school, including the SWPBS team and school council. We look forward to implementing the agreement with students and to be able to share this with families. Later in the year we will invite parents and carers to attend an information session to learn how you can adopt the user agreement in the home to support the safe and responsible use of technology.
