In Week 5, the Art and Technology team celebrated Design and Technologies week as a chance to celebrate this dynamic, challenging and essential learning area. Across each lunchtime, activities were set up and run by subject areas within the learning area.
On Monday, the Product Design team, Mr Marsh, Mr Graham and Mr Qi ran 'Wacky Racers’, and students had the opportunity to refine their work, using hand tools, and paint their design.
We also had Ms Rumble running a Textiles session focused around ‘T-Shirt’ design, and students had the opportunity to create a custom T-shirt of their choice, which they could take home. Some students explored tie-dyeing their works.
On Tuesday, we Ms. Watt ran the ‘Create with AI Creativity Challenge' where students could explore the world of AI and how it can be used in creative spaces.
Wednesday saw Ms. Thomson lead a ‘Bridge Design Challenge’ as part of Systems Engineering. Students competed against their friends for who could design the bridge that could withstand the most weight!
On Thursday, we entered the kitchen with Ms. Blackmore, Ms. Hooper and Ms. Haggar for the ‘Puff Pastry Design Challenge’ where students had the opportunity to explore creative combinations of using puff pastry and jam to create unique (and delicious) dishes.
And on Friday, our Art staff, Ms. Flandez, Ms. Woebken and Mr. Qin, facilitated some ‘Chalk Murals’ outside of the A block rooms. Students got creative with their drawings, adding some colour to the pavement and surroundings.
Thank you to all the staff for their effort and creativity, and a special mention to our Art and Technology Captains, Tiarnah Pullen, Crystal Jackson, Lily Evans and Holly Howard for their support across the week.
It was great to see so many students participate throughout the week, getting involved in our wonderful, hands-on and fun Learning Area. We look forward to continuing to celebrate the Art and Technology Learning Area, both in classes and future lunchtime programs.
