Year 8 Boys Badminton
On Thursday 22 May, a squad of nine Year 8 students accompanied by two student coaches, Hendrix and Nathan, set off for Kilsyth Sports Centre, home of Mountain District Badminton Association to compete in the Interschool Badminton Competition.
Throughout the course of the day, competitors fiercely played 4 rounds consisting of both singles and doubles matches. Our weeks of training paid off and both teams made it through to the semifinals! Congratulations to Max, Lucas, Ethan and Mihir who won against Upwey to win the pennant and make it through to the next round! We look forward to attending the regional competition in Term 3!

Year 7 Memorable Badminton Victories
School sports aren’t just about the doing something different outside the classroom. The weeks of lunch time training and dedication is finally put to the test on inter-school sports tournament day.
So it was for the Year 7 Badminton boys and girls teams. For all the students, this was their first time representing the school in the sport of badminton. And for some, it was their first time playing the sport.
The Year 7 Badminton Teams are:
Boys: Kanvar Singh, Eric Sun, Jared Lee, Leo Thai, Levi Soriano (away on the day of the tournament).
Girls: Elena Chen, Sienna Montorio, Ashlee Vassil, Anna Nguyen, Juliette Leitch.
After many hard-fought matches, the boys and girls squads came first in their respective categories. They were the Year 7 Badminton Champions of the Yarra Division Tournament!
The students will not only remember their first wins representing Wantirna College, but also the teamwork and opportunity to bond as a cohesive squad with students drawn from across the various Year 7 groups. After every match, students shook hands with their opponents, thanked them and displayed humble pride in their achievement. Their sportsmanship exemplified the values of Wantirna College.
These victories would not have been achieved without the support of Bianca Mizzi (for sports co-ordination), Matthew Burleigh (for transport) and Kimberley Graham (for his expert advice and guidance).
