Intermediate Boys Soccer

On Thursday 15 May, Ms. Beck and I took the Year 9 and 10 Soccer teams out for their Knox Division Competition against local schools.

Both teams demonstrated incredible determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day with Wantirna A finishing second overall and Wantirna B placing fourth, out of nine teams. 

The B Team kicked off their day with a 2-2 draw against Rowville West A, with goals from Zaid, taking a nice touch back inside to open up the goals, and Jordy, who capitalised on long shot from captain Adam which was fumbled by the keeper. After a bye, the boys then won 5-0 against Upwey B, then followed this with a 1-1 draw against Rowville West C, with Jordy equalising late in the game. Despite a tough 0-9 loss to Rowville East Sport Academy, the B Team finished 2nd in their pool, showcasing impressive consistency across the pool stage. Unfortunately, they fell short in the final against Rowville West B, losing 3-0. 

The A Team also had a strong start, defeating Rowville West B 1-0, thanks to a short corner pass from Coleby to captain Marco, who successfully scored off a long shot from near the post. Against Upwey A, Luka netted two goals before the game was called off due to an injury to an opposing player three minutes into the game. Their final group match saw a thrilling 3-3 draw against Boronia, with goals from Jacob, Tyler, and another from Luka. Although we thought we would successfully win all three of our group games, Boronia scored a last minute equaliser, but we still finished top of our pool. In the final, they came up against a very strong Rowville East team for a chance to progress to the next round, but unfortunately were defeated 10-0 after a long day.

While neither team progressed beyond the finals, both can hold their heads high. Wantirna A and B showed skill, heart, and resilience to finish first and second in their respective pools. A big congratulations to all players involved for their effort and enthusiasm throughout the day.
