From the Year 4 Classroom
Well, what a term it has been! We have had an absolute ball and achieved so many AMAZING things. Even though we have a bit over a week of this term to go, this is our last newsletter for this term. We wish everyone a safe Term 3 holiday and look forward to a jam-packed Term 4, including a day excursion! (Watch this space!!!!)
We enjoyed the R U OK Family Breakfast and activities in the classroom today as well as looking forward to our Athletics Carnival on Friday.
In Reading:
In Reading, we have continued to look at persuasive texts by reading several engaging picture books, texts and news articles. Whilst reading these texts, we have been analyzing the techniques authors use to persuade readers to believe their point of view or take specific action. Over the last few weeks, we have been practicing our reading fluency by reading aloud in pairs for 1-minute intervals, for up to 10 minutes at a time. We have been working on speed, accuracy and expression during this time. We were fortunate enough to have a visit from Lucinda Gifford, a well-known author and illustrator.
In Writing, we have begun to write a persuasive text ensuring that we include the persuasive techniques authors use. We have been researching and collecting evidence to support our opinions. Pen Licences are continuing to be handed out!
In Numeracy we have been focusing on:
- Time-am and pm notation, reading time with both analogue and digital clocks, and learning to read 24-hour time. We have also been learning how many hours there are in a normal day as well as a school day, and at what times of the day certain things occur- eg- what time recess is, what time the end of the school day finishes, what time we might go to bed, eat dinner etc.
- Calendar and reading timetables such as the VLine. (Look out!! You might be on the train to Melbourne over the holidays!!)
Thank you to those who have been helping their child learn their timetables. The improvement in this area has been pleasing to see!!! Keep at it!
In Religion we have continued learning about the topic ‘Jesus Models Forgiveness.’ In this unit, students have learnt about the four steps of forgiveness, making good choices and saying sorry to others. We congratulate Tate McGlynn-Phillips on making his Sacrament of Reconciliation last Wednesday night.
In Inquiry, students have been preparing and will present an oral presentation for a new law proposal in Australia.
