Primary School

Last Thursday included a vibrant celebration of culture, sun and spring during our Walk to School Day. Students across the school proudly wore their best pink attire and enjoyed a delightful walk to school. Upon arrival, they were welcomed with muffins and hot Milo, encouraging conversation and setting a joyful tone for an exciting day ahead.

Pink Day for Baudin was a resounding success with a total of $1,381.45 raised for the Breast Cancer Research Centre.

Year Four Excursion - Museum of the Great Southern

On Thursday 12 September the combined Year Four classes visited the Museum of the Great Southern to explore the Brig Amity and the Albany Convict Gaol. We learned about the ‘Stories of the First Fleet’, delving into the treatment of convicts, their daily lives, social order, and interactions with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

We were assigned the roles of actual convicts, experiencing life in a chain gang and gaining insights into their living conditions while thoroughly exploring the Brig Amity. The sun shone brightly during our delightful picnic lunch, though we couldn’t help but hear echoes of screams from the notorious solitary confinement cells at the gaol. Our hunt for primary and secondary sources immersed us in a wealth of artifacts, stories and history.

Student reflections included:

Lilly Taylor - ‘Today was a really cool day! It was amazing learning about the history of the Brig Amity, even though the gaol was a little freaky!’

Leah Scott - ‘The gaol was really cool, and I loved learning about the Brig Amity because we all got to eat Hard Tack. We also got put in chains!’

Clare Hartley - ‘The old gaol was really interesting to see how things had changed from then to now.’

Zyana Prasad - ‘It was one of the best excursions I have ever had. We went into jail cells and got scared from the mannequins and flashing lights! The Brig Amity is so small, too small for sixty people.’

We would love to thank all the staff at both venues for making it such a wonderful learning experience.

Year Five Market Stall - A huge success

This term the Year Five class has been preparing for a market stall as part of their HASS inquiry unit. At the market stall we made food and hosted inside and outside games such as gang up chasey, ultimate tag, basketball, coin on chocolate, musical chairs, card selling and raffles.

The food we sold included mango and banana smoothies, cupcakes, cakes, cookies and jelly cups which sold out extremely quickly. Our prizes for games were chocolates and lolly bags. The prizes for the raffle were spiderman and coco melon colouring in and activity books for the ECC and chocolate bars and lolly bags for the Years Three to Six.

The lucky winners were Priscilla and Freya from Pre-Primary; and Sophie, Olivia, and Fraser from Year Four; and Charlie from Year Six. Our prices ranged from $1 - $3. We made of $722 but when we took away our expenses we were left with $522. We are donating to the Year Six community service programme.

We also made solar systems that the Primary School had voted on which one was the best. Congratulations to number 10 who was the winning solar system and was made by Malachy Williams and was followed closely by number 17 made by Edith Newman who came second. Personally, we agree that the whole Primary School enjoyed it very much, even the teachers had a great time.
