From the Deputy Principal
Real life fun!
Last week my husband and I went for an evening walk down to the Lower King boat ramp, which is close to our house. We were met by a group of over-enthusiastic dogs who, despite their owners standing by with ball throwing paraphenalia not more than ten metres from us, all dropped their slobbery balls at our feet and begged us to throw them. Who could resist four sets of desperate, hairy and over-excited retrievers?! We both remarked on how nice it was to see our neighbours out and about, connecting and chatting. As we headed home through vacant blocks of land, we reminisced about childhood memories of being out adventuring in the afternoons until darkness, and hunger, drove us home. And then, we saw this...
To the untrained eye, this looks like a pile of sand and sticks. But, look closely...what is it, really? It is a bona fide fort, of course, complete with a look out and a place to ride your bike through a jump close by! In the trees further back was a cubby. Children had created all this with their imagination and a shovel! Seeing this, I was really heartened to see clear evidence of children playing outside, interacting with nature and using their initiative and enjoying unstructured play time. In an age where our children can be constantly in the thrall of digital devices (if we let them), this made my heart sing. Over the holidays, encourage your children to get outside (for hours!), use their amazing imaginations and enjoy just 'being'. We look forward to seeing them all back at school at the start of Term Four on Tuesday 8 October.

Update on Ulster Road Lane Closure - Stage 5
The authorised contractor, DM Civil, is progressing well in their work to replace a wastewater pipeline under Ulster Road. This pipeline is an important part of Albany's wastewater network and the work will reduce future leaks and breaks.
From Thursday 12 September we will move to Stage 5, which includes a shift in the lane closure along Ulster Road. Work for this stage should be complete around early November.
What to expect in Stage 5:
- A single northbound lane will be closed from Angove Road and Martin Road.
- The southbound lane from Lower King / Bayonet Head to North Road will remain open, however will have reduced speed limits.
- A detour along Angove Road and Collingwood Road will be in place to reduce traffic around the schools and hospital.
- Signage will be in place to show access to the Hospital and Health Campus.
- Access to properties and businesses will be maintained.
- For the safety of our workers and the community, please follow all traffic signs and reduced speed limits.

Thank you for your patience while we complete this essential pipeline replacement. With your continued support, we can shape WA's water future together.
