Mrs Kaileen Carr
We are aware that several students play across the road before school. Unfortunately there have been reports of unacceptable behaviour and language. Some of these students have been throwing sticks at the magpies and provoking them to attack.
These students are also coming into school after the 9:20am bell. Please speak to your child about being respectful, safe and coming into school on time (around 9:00am)
On Thursday 19th September, our school will be holding NAIDOC day. It promises to be a terrific day, with a range of activities such as making Johnny Cakes, traditional Aboriginal games, painting boomerangs and scratch art being offered to our students. There will be a number of special visitors attending the day to share their knowledge of Aboriginal culture to the students.
We will enjoy a BBQ sausage sizzle at lunch time, however, it is recommended that students still bring in their own lunch and recess. The canteen will be operational on the day.
There will be an assembly in the top quad at 12:30pm. This assembly will feature a performance from our dance group and official opening of our cultural garden and mural designed by Rich. All are welcome to attend.
Students are encouraged to wear the colours of the Aboriginal flag – black, red or yellow on Thursday 19th September. Please ensure your child/children wear appropriate footwear, especially considering the activities they will be involved in during the day.
Anzac Garden
Earlier this year we were successful in gaining a grant from the Office of Veterans Affairs to construct a garden that commemorates the service and sacrifices of current and former military servicemen and servicewomen. We planted Gallipoli Rosemary - a rosemary plant whose cuttings were originally brought back from ANZAC Cove by a Digger - and edged the garden bed with key lines from 'The Ode of Remembrance' poem. For both our ANZAC Service and Remembrance Day events, we will decorate the garden with poppies to remind our students of the importance of these key days in history.
