Assistant Principals' Report
Dear HPS Community,
Wellbeing Year 4
Over the past 8 weeks we have come together as a whole cohort to work together in Room 23 and 24 for one wellbeing session a week. Gemma, Anouka, Occero, Duke and Helen as well as our support staff have presented a range of focus areas including help seeking, emotional regulation and providing the students with language for when conflict may arise amongst our peers. This has given Leigh Barry the opportunity to then work with a group of 20 girls focussing on the MPower girls program. Leigh, Rochelle, Mel and Thuy participated in a training day with Stride in Term 2 which has equipped them with the skills and knowledge to facilitate this program in the school.
From the Stride website:
MPower Girls encourages students to be more mindful of how they think, talk and act towards each other. The program aims to explore the vast and unified nature of girls, help girls better understand their relationships, practise new ways of relating and develop the confidence to express feelings honestly and without aggression.
The program explores the themes of being a good friend, the impact of body language on others and the effects of negative comments. Within this framework, students learn specific skills to problem-solve peer issues effectively, be assertive in conflict situations, reduce stereotyping and be more mindful of how their actions affect their peers.
It has been fantastic to be a part of these sessions over the term and the students have shown cooperation, collaboration as well as our school values in working as teams. We are finishing the term with writing books in small groups about what we have learned over the term to share with the Foundation students. I have included some pictures below of the posters completed by the MPower group.
Have a great weekend!
