Updates from our Pastoral Groups (Units)
With the coming of Spring, the Foundation students have been busy exploring our local community and environment, both as part of our Unit on Shepparton, as well as our unit on Creation.
We explored our neighbourhood by going on a walk in the local area. We discovered many things about Shepparton, such as the reason why we have power lines, why there are numbers on the houses, why there are lots of parks and gardens, and how we can keep ourselves safe while living in Shepparton.
We also appreciated the beautiful Spring weather and God's beautiful creations. We learnt about using mandalas as a way to pray and meditate, and many were excited to learn that this custom came from India and the Hindu and Buddhist religions. We attempted to make mandalas of our own, using circular, repeating patterns
This term, the Grade 1/2 students explored how 'sound and art affect mood'. They experimented with various artistic mediums and delved into 'foley'—the art of creating movie sounds. Using these new skills, they collaborated in small groups to produce stop-motion movies, incorporating a narrative structure, title, setting, characters, problem, solution, and at least two foley sounds.
Our term concluded with a delightful Oscars-inspired event where students showcased their films and received awards. We were truly impressed by their encouragement of one another and the supportive atmosphere.
Some of our students had an incredible day at the ASHE Fest last week, joining with schools from across the region to celebrate and experience Indigenous culture. The day began with a powerful and moving Smoking Ceremony, setting the tone for a rich cultural experience. Students enjoyed a variety of activities, from traditional Indigenous games and crafts to face painting, all while building friendships with students from other schools. It was a day filled with learning, connection, and fun, as we deepened our appreciation for the rich heritage of our First Nations people.
It was a great pleasure for our school community to host the CES Ltd Sandhurst Arts on Show for our local Catholic schools this week. Thank you to ASPA (Australian School of Performing Arts) and their wonderful staff who led our day. Their talent and engagement with our students is truly inspiring.
Our Upper students truly shone on Wednesday, participating in a day filled with rehearsals, song, dance, and preparation, showcasing all they had learnt at the concert to end the day. Our students proudly showcased numbers from our School Production and embraced the opportunity to learn new material, which they performed with energy and enthusiasm.
The benefits of participating in Performing Arts extend beyond the stage. Research consistently shows that engagement in the arts improves students' creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. It also has a positive impact on their academic performance, helping to build confidence and enhance their ability to express themselves. We are incredibly proud of how our students embraced this experience, demonstrating not only their talent but also their growth as learners.
This event was a wonderful celebration of the arts and a reflection of the vibrant and inclusive spirit of our school community and the wider community with schools coming together across the GV to celebrate, pray, sing, dance and play together.
What an incredible day we had for our End of Term Sports Colours Day, capped off by the much-anticipated Staff vs. Year 6 Students Netball Game! The school was alive with colour as students arrived proudly sporting their favourite team jerseys and colours, and the smiles on their faces lit up the entire day.
Our Year 6 students brought energy, determination, and a wonderful spirit of teamwork as they prepared to take on the staff—and what a game it was! It was heartwarming to see parents and grandparents join the staff team, creating a mix of rivalry and loving support as they played against their own children and grandchildren. This moment marked a special milestone in our Year 6 students’ final year, a memory they will carry forward with pride.
The atmosphere was truly electric, and the sense of community was palpable. We are so blessed to have such a vibrant, supportive school community, and days like these remind us of the joy and unity that comes from coming together.
Thank you to all involved in organising our day & to our Social Club who supplied our Year 6's with their after game ice-cream treat which is also an annual occurrence. Thank you to AFL GV for 'lending' us Zaya & Sienna who were able to fill in for the staff team and run a clinic for our Prep Students. Please see their footy clinic flyers in our newsletter.
