As we get deeper into subtraction, we are showing our thinking in ways that make sense for us, including number sentences, drawings, using counters, and unifix blocks.

Number sentences: symbols representing a subtraction 

e.g. 15 - 9 = 6

Do you cook and do chores with your children? Ask subtraction questions during this time. 

e.g. We are cooking 8 chicken wings. If I eat 3 now, how many will be left for everyone? Is that enough?

There are five rooms that need vacuuming. I’ve done 2, how many to go?
