Classroom News

Foundation

The Foundation students have been learning all about measurement. The students have discovered we can measure many things! Using one centimetre cubes the students have measured the length of pencils, books, bags, our hands and even our shoes! It has been wonderful to hear the students using Mathematical language like shorter than, shortest and longer than and longest while measuring. The students have also learnt that when talking about measurement, cm stands for centimetre. We have become experts at measuring in our class!

Italian

In Italian the foundation students are engaging in and listening to the story “Zucchero Filato” (Fairy Floss) The story is set in the context of a fair and Pinocchio sets his sights on a colourful fairy floss cart (Carretto dello Zucchero Filato) and eagerly tries to buy some with his friend Grillo (Cricket). This interactive story combines the magic of a beloved character, the excitement of a fair, and the experience of learning common Italian expressions like “Mamma Mia!” The children are also learning the song and moves to “Testa, Spalle, Ginocchia e Piedi.” (Head, Shoulders, Knees and Feet). The children were really excited when they were able to eat some Fairy Floss themselves while reading the story.

Year 1/2

Writer’s Notebook!

“A writer’s notebook is a tool for helping our students grow into lifelong writers. It is where students capture observations, reactions, ideas, questions, memories, quotes, sketches, lists, or snippets of language. It is a place to experiment, collect, and hold on to thinking” - Heather Clayton

This term, Year 1/2 will be using the Writer’s Notebook tool/process during their daily Writing sessions. It is wonderful to see the students eager to bring in their seed ideas (whether it be a photograph of their favourite person or adventure, drawing of a past event, or a print out of their favourite book/movie/game. It is fantastic to already hear them using the language of ‘seed’ and ‘thinking routines’.

Read below what some of the Year 1/2s had to say about Writer’s Notebook:

In Writing time, I got to write a letter to the Legoland makers to say thank you and I told them what I did! Tazlyn

I love putting my ideas in my 'seed book' because I love writing about things I like! William

I love taking the photos for the 'seed book', using the thinking routines, writing a plan, writing a draft, editing my work and then publishing it! That’s me! Mia

I love my writer’s notebook because it is helping me to get better at my writing! Ava

If you want to learn how to ride a bike, you can read my procedure! Joseph

I enjoyed searching up facts about dolphins to write in my information report! Billie

Year 2/3

We played Rolling In Treasure for one of our Maths rotation. We didn't care if we won or lost, we just wanted to play the game and have fun.     Cody and Tristan

We thought it was a really fun game. It was called Race To $10 and we had to get a bag of money, a dice and a game board. We had to remember our amount of money and each time we rolled the dice, we had to add that amount to our previous amount. It was fun and challenging.     Katalina and Emma

Me and Eva played Race To $10 during Maths rotation. You needed a board game, a die and a bag of mixed coins. We played it twice. I won the first time and Eva won the second time. Chloe D. and Eva

We thought that Study Ladder had challenging activities but it was fun. Study Ladder helped us to learn about money. We think it was fun to learn this way.

Chloe B., Raffaele, Chris and Georgia

Rolling In Treasure was really. It was a game where you have to get the most money by rolling a dice and getting the amount of money that your number on the dice said. You play with a partner and you have to get to the finish.    Arvin and Viraj

Our group played Money Challenge. It's where you add up fruits and vegetables, like an apple is 40c and a bunch of bananas is $1.05c. We each got a Money Challenge card which had questions on it. The cards and some of the challengers were hard but we got through them.    Laura, Kushi and Shamus

Our small group worked with Janine on a Money Activity Booklet. In it, we worked on comparing coins and coins and their value. It was fun working out the highest coin in pairs and it was interesting learning about matching coins with their value and writing this in words.    Austin, Samantha, Amy and Benjermen

Year 3/4

KISS 10.11 Haunted House! By Allie Tran

“BOOM!!” “AHHHHH!” I screamed in the dark as a creepy doll popped out of nowhere. Our family was running and screaming for our lives because there was a person dressed up as a killer and holding a chainsaw! After that, we arrived at the Laser Maze full of mystery. Before we got in the maze we'd already heard lots and lots of yelling and screaming! I was curious and scared at the same time, when we got in somehow it smelled a little bit like rotten cabbage. Last when we arrived at the end of the Laser Maze it was HILARIOUS! I was super happy and I was enjoying it a lot but when I looked at my mum's face, she was freaking out!

 The Hot Choco  by Stephanie

“Chicken, cheese, beef, bacon” I was very hungry,  I wanted hot chocolate. I was making it in the kitchen when I tried it. It was so good. It was warm, sweet and creamy. Then I played roblox.

Ouch!!!! By Katelin

BANG!!! That was the sound of my middle finger banging into nannas car door. As I removed it slowly (for some reason) I then quickly ran fast to a laundry shop where nanna was. I showed nanna as it was bleeding really badly, and then the laundry worker approached us and gave me three tiny tiny bandages to put on it. After that a kind lady from the shop behind gave me an icy pole to soothe the finger and she said it will also help with the swelling. After nanna rushed me to her place I shed so many tears, I was in so much unbearable pain.

Small Moment  By Lauren

My family and I are making a secret surprise B-day party for my mum. We made food for lunch. There was more annoying drama before my amazing mum arrived. When my slay mum arrived we had amazing fun.

The Monkey Forest By Roman

In Bali, we went to a sacred monkey forest. The forest was lush with tall and gigantic trees that blocked out the sunlight, you could see the roots coming out of the ground. It was musty and damp with lots of moss on the trees and covering the temples. While we were walking we got told not to look into the monkeys eyes. The monkeys were so cute and fuzzy. We found  three monkeys fighting, “ooh ooh ahh ahh!” went the monkeys. We got informed that there were different monkey tribes. Ahh that's why they were fighting. We also saw an ancient temple and church, the designs were out of this world. There  was an old and massive tree in the middle of the sanctuary. I really wanted to go there again but it was lunchtime.

The Wahlburgers Amazing BURGER! By Brenton

As me and my family were waiting for our food, I could hear so much chatter that I could hardly hear my mom asking a question. Hmm… I wonder what that chatter is about…

At last my burger arrived, as I looked at my burger, I suddenly caught this delicious smell of bacon, mayonnaise and sourdough! On my first bite I tasted some yummy, crispy chicken and egg! I was so amazed that it was the best burger I’ve ever tasted! Now I know what all that chatter is about!

Melbourne Royal Show  By Kaitlyn

Me and Natalie went on a ride. I thought the ride was called SWINGING CHAIRS ( It’s a weird name). While we rode the ride, Natalie saw a bigger version of the ride and gasped. Cling, clang! The chains collided and made lots of noise. After the ride, Natalie felt dizzy, but I wasn’t dizzy (I just don’t get  too dizzy). Gladly the ride wasn’t too tall! So Natalie didn’t get that sick.

Year 5/6

WELLBEING NEWS

Who do you turn to for help? Who helps you? Here's some musings.....

Helping Hands

By Keefe

When there's no teacher around to help me I ask Amelia to help me with whatever problem I face, so I’m also very thankful for her help. Being a bigger brother it’s normal for my younger brother to ask help from me, which I sometimes accept.

Helping Hands RRRR by Yash Dev

I Can Ask These People To Help Me Out

I can ask help from my Mum because in one of my projects I was struggling and worrying a lot because I didn't have enough time to finish it, until my Mum came back from her job and started helping me by giving me suggestions and even doing a little. I was also super tired from working continuously but because of my Mum I could do it.

I’m Thankful For Help From These People

I’m thankful for my Dad because he has a caring heart and he always gives me tips and tricks when I’m struggling in cricket so I can become a great successful cricket player.

I Help These People

I felt happy when I helped Aryan when he was confused to do something that was very complicated, so I told him a method that was efficient and better unlike the method that he was doing earlier.

Helping Hands by Yianna

I am thankful for help from my family because they understand me more so that way they know how to help me out . And I can ask my friends for help because whenever I am stuck on a question they help me understand better. And I helped my family for example like when my mum says to help unload the groceries I don't hesitate and just do it.
