MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL
Mid-Autumn Festival September 2023
Today we celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival by having a lunchtime BBQ and sharing mooncakes, dumplings and spring rolls.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a traditional festival celebrated in Chinese culture. Similar holidays are celebrated in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and other countries in East and Southeast Asia.
This year, the festival will formally occur on September 29th and expect celebrations to take place at Federation Square in the CBD and other locations around Melbourne.
For our event today, Ms Jessica did a wonderful job coordinating with parents to provide students with yummy snacks and special treats. Our BBQ encouraged/required that International students invite a local friend, helping to bridge connections between new International students in our school with local buddies. We catered for over 200 students during the lunch break, so yes, it was a very busy time of cooking, serving and eating, laughing and getting to know more about each other.
A big thank you to the generosity of our parents and to our school canteen manager Ms Sue Burke, who always supports events of this nature by supplying the best food (sausages, vegan burgers, breads and sauces on this occasion), making our events very successful and memorable. Thank you also to our Alumni visitor, Oubu Yamada, and teachers Ms O’Neill and Mr Blanche who helped manage the large number of students that joined in the celebration and to the many teachers that dropped by to ‘grab a snag’ and to chat with students.
So, remember September 29th 2023, the official day to celebrate Mid-Autumn festival.
