SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS

Term 3 has ended with some spectacular performances by our students and teachers.

The team consisted of Katie Collins, Mia Beckman-Atzil, Olivia Braakhuis, Ursula Cremasco, Megan Elliott, Remi Harris, Emilie Keppens, Megan Medland, Frances O’Driscoll, Matilda Overhill and Bethany Vermaak. We also had major success on Kingston Athletics Day. Sixty students represented Brighton Secondary College on the day, and they should be so proud of their efforts. Congratulations to Elara Quinn and Isabella Hollins who were awarded age group champions. What an amazing effort! Elara finished first in three track events 100m, 200m and 400m. PASE update:

This term the year 7 and 8 students competed in the Kingston weekly competition. All teams demonstrated teamwork and determination throughout. A special mention to the year 7 boys and girls Futsal teams and Touch Rugby teams for qualifying for the finals. Well done to the Touch Rugby team who were the winners on the day; Kalahni Brown, Stephan Cantone, Dixon Finn, Benjamin Hackett, Kobe Lai, Fraser Macleod, Blake Miles, Oscar Rey-Benguigui, Isla Staite, Mia Torbet.

‘On the 12th of September the Boys and Mixed Touch Rugby Teams travelled to McKinnon Reserve to play in the grand final. Unfortunately, there were only 3 Girls on the day, and they teamed up with the mixed Team from Parkdale Secondary, so everyone got to play. They lined up against McKinnon with Mia making the winning touch to win the final, fantastic effort and sportsmanship were shown. The Boys’ Team also played against Parkdale in a tight match they went out and played with confidence and they won 2-1, a super effort by both teams. At the start of the term, we were two teams that had never played Touch Rugby before, but the students put in effort to learn the game and worked so well as a team and won!

A big thank you to Mr Agg for couching us and another shout out for Miss May for starting us off strong.’

-Fraser Macleod.

‘On Tuesday the 12th the Touch Rugby girls competed in the grand final against McKinnon. We only had 3 girls, but Parkdale had 4 so we decided to combine teams we had to decide who would sub first we all had a rest and made sure we all had a fair amount of game time. The game went on as both teams had tied. We went into after time with 4v4 but still tied then we went into 3v3. We got the winning try and that made Brighton secondary and Parkdale winners.’

Individual sporting achievements:

Well done to Bodie Horne Adam Weisz who competed in the Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschool Snowsport Championships. Bodie competed in the following events, Alpine (giant slalom) and finished 51st from 203 competitors, Ski cross and finished 17th out of 204 competitors in the qualifying run, and 24th of 32 competitors in the final, and Moguls finished 28th of 77 competitors. These are excellent results, and he now qualifies for a select ski program at Mt Buller next year.

Jenson Yokota-Ho is continuing his tennis journey, he is currently in Adelaide at the Junior International Tennis Federation (ITF). The ITF is a steppingstone for junior tennis players and Jenson has some tough competition ahead. We wish him all the very best and we can’t wait to hear the result.
