YEAR 9 CAREERS DAY

Shape Your Future

On Wednesday 6th September, all Year 9 students spent the day participating in three different introductory activities to the World of Work.

The three activities were:

MINDFLIGHT 7 “SEES YOUR FUTURE”

This virtual reality experience had students gain experience in careers that may otherwise not be possible. Apart from it being fun and educational, it focussed on genuine learning opportunities and realistic career guidance on STEAM jobs. Some of the VR experiences that students undertook were Frog dissection, Open Heart Surgery, Soundstage, ISS Space Mission, Tilt Brush just to mention a few.

THE ADAPTOR PROGRAM

In this activity students looked at how their attributes could be used in securing casual work. Students brainstormed the different meanings of work and explored the characteristics of the 20th Century employee. Discussions around the skills and qualities of entrepreneurs were also held.

TARGETED PROGRAMS

These two programs looked at how students could develop skills to effectively manage and develop relationships, as well as better preparing themselves for everyday social challenges at school and in the working environment.

MPOWER GIRLS

This activity focused on students’ mindfulness, surrounding how they think, talk and act towards each other

MEN 2B

This program had the students focusing on developing positive masculine behaviours. Students explored topics such as respectful relationships, media conditioning and used role models as a guide to model positive behaviour strategies
