PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

YEAR 6 MAV MATHS GAMES DAY

On Friday the 8th of September, four Milgate students headed off to Genazzano FCJ College in Kew for a day filled with maths and fun! Zethan G, Austin W, Vicky Y and Iris C competed on behalf of Milgate Primary School in the Maths Association of Victoria Maths Games Day, where they solved problems, played competitive games and explored maths puzzles. It was a fantastic day of interacting with students from other schools and collaborating in order to solve challenging problems! There were 50 teams in total competing for a variety of prizes and our Milgate students did us proud!

FOOTY DAY - TUESDAY 12th SEPTEMBER

It’s footy fever at Milgate to celebrate end-of-term. Please dress up to support your favourite footy team. If AFL isn’t your thing don’t worry – we would love to see students repping their favourite soccer, netball, basketball or any other sports team. No gold coin required. Can’t wait to see everyone in their team colours!

From Cody & Willy (5KT) and the Junior School Council.

NEW KISS & GO SIGNS

Drop-off OR Pick-Up ONLY – NO PARKING

Manningham Council has installed Kiss & Go signage on Landscape Drive. We hope that families will use these bays as a quick pick up and drop off locations and will avoid waiting for their children in these locations.

In these bays, you can stop for 2 minutes in that area, during those times

  • if you are picking up or dropping off passengers or goods AND
  • you stay within 3 metres of your vehicle

If you stop in, or partly in, an area showing a no parking sign and you are not picking up or dropping off passengers or goods, you are considered to be parked and can be fined. This is the case even if you stay with your vehicle.

Thank you for your support in helping to improve the traffic flow around our school.

WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY

MONDAY - 2:50PM

This Monday we will have our first Whole School Assembly in the stadium. Parents are very welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing you then.

FIRST AID NEWS

With the start of Spring, we already have many presentations of hayfever to First Aid (itchy or red eyes, runny or congested nose, irritated throat).

If your child has hayfever please administer an antihistamine tablet or liquid before school.

If you wish to keep antihistamine, eyedrops, nasal spray or other hayfever medication at school, then please ask your GP to sign the ASCIA form using this link Allergic Rhinitis Treatment Plan - Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA), and return it with any medication you wish to keep onsite. We do not administer hayfever medication at school unless we have specific medication or a special circumstance.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

On Tuesday afternoon, Jane Beams, a Resilience Coach and Trainer presented one of her workshops to staff. The session was designed especially for teachers and school leaders, exploring the 3 Elements of Resilience in Adversity. The Workshop was an opportunity to place the teacher at the centre, allowing our staff to build their emotional fitness. By doing this, we will be able to better manage emotionally challenging situations and develop the resilience to be more responsive and less reactive in challenging situations. Further information about Jane can be found at her website https://janebeams.com.au/

YEARBOOK ADVERTISING

Each year, Milgate Primary School creates a Yearbook to showcase the amazing learning that occurs throughout the year.

Within our 2023 Milgate PS Yearbook we are offering local businesses an opportunity to purchase an advertising space to promote your business.  Last year we sold and distributed 400 copies of our 2022 Yearbook to the families of Milgate PS. Our Yearbook is of the highest quality and it will be professionally produced and printed in a glossy magazine style.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure for your local business and support our wonderful school.  If you are interested in advertising your business in the 2023 Milgate PS Yearbook, please email David Mander.

Congratulations to 1MC, 5CC and 3CF for being this week’s trash free Tuesday winner and having 2 pieces of trash! They will receive ’Ernie the Earth’ our environmental mascot.

Overall as a school we got 183 pieces of trash. Keep up the great work and let’s keep getting under 200 pieces of rubbish!
