Welcome to the final newsletter of Term 3!

Wow, we can't believe that we are at the end of Term 3! We are so proud of how hard the students in Grade One and Two have worked and all the events that they have attended.  

Next Term, is a SunSmart term, which means, hats! Children are to come to school with hats as per our school policy. No hat, no play. Please ensure that your child's hat is clearly named.

We hope that you all have a lovely, restful break and we look forward to seeing your bright, smiley faces for Term 4!

Important Dates:

Grade 1and 2 - Term 4 Week 1 & 2 Overview

In Weeks 1 & 2 of Term 4, the Grade 1 students will be learning about the following topics;

Writing: Informational Texts

Maths Groups: Addition and Subtraction

Classroom Maths: Time

Inquiry: The Water Cycle

Science: Weather Patterns

In Weeks 1 & 2 of Term 4, the Grade 2 students will be learning about the following topics;

Reading: Participating in Cafe lessons and learning associated reading strategies 

Writing: Poetry

Maths (Number): Fractions and Counting

Classroom Maths: Chance 

Inquiry: Minibeasts

Science: Living Things

Footsteps- Term 4

 In Term 4, children in Foundation, Grade One and Grade Two will be attending five “Footsteps” dance classes for 45 minutes to an hour on a Wednesday from Week 3 onwards. 

The course is part of the school dance curriculum and is designed to provide students with an insight into traditional forms of dance, whilst also developing their social skills, confidence and physical fitness. The starting point for dance learning is ‘everyday movements’. Students learn about dancing safely and become aware of their bodies’ movement capabilities. They explore movement possibilities using space, time, dynamics and relationships. 

Classes will be held in the Stadium and the cost per student will be $20. All payments are on Qkr and by completing the payment you are consenting to your child attending the program. Please complete the payment by 9th October. If you are experiencing difficulty, please let me know.  

Science Week

During Science Week, the students participated in different activities run by the Grade 5 and 6 students. The Grade 1/2s learnt about parachutes, circuits and magnets and even got to make some of their own creations. They also learnt about science and its relation to Indigenous Australian culture through the Jollybops Science Incursion. On the Friday of Science Week, all students were able to see the whole schools learning about science by looking around at the different experiments at the VPS Science Expo. 

Grade 1 Edithvale Excursion

On Tuesday 21st November the Grade 1 students will be travelling to Edithvale to learn more about the water cycle. Payment will open on the 1st day of Term 4 and close on the 14th Nov. Three parent helpers will be required for each class. If you would like to come along, please get in contact with your child's teacher.

Grade 1 Inquiry

Next term Grade 1 students will be required to bring in a shoe box for our Inquiry topic. These shoeboxes will be used as the base of a diorama about the water cycle. Please bring the shoeboxes in the first 2-3 weeks of Term 4.
