Here we are at the end of Term 3...can you believe we have only one term to go? The beautiful weather has made this week even more spectacular, again finishing off the week with some more special events. Today we had our Footy Colours day, as well as our Staff V Students Netball game. What a way to end the term!
From next term, there will be changes to the entrance to the school from the Vermont Oval side. There are significant works planned for this area which will take up to 12 months to complete, and at various stages will impact on the entrance to the school. This also means that for some time, we won't be able to use the Vermont Oval for recess and lunch breaks, or for sports events. Although this will present some short term challenges, the Whitehorse Council assures us that it will be worth it in the long run! Please see the below statement from the council.
"Whitehorse Council is undertaking the renewal of the Vermont Reserve sporting field. Works will include removal of the current playing surface and organic material, installation of drainage, irrigation system, AFL goals with safety netting behind, cricket pitch, boundary line fence, perimeter concrete walking path and santa ana couch playing surface.
Works will commence in the near future, with clear directional signage on display once work starts. For the duration of the works, there will be no activities on Vermont Reserve.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Council’s Leisure and Recreation Administration Team on 9262 6371 or via lars@whitehorse.vic.gov.au "
As we are moving closer to the end of 2023, we are turning our sights on preparations for 2024. Each year, parents are given the opportunity to make a request for consideration in regard to their child's placement. Please note, this is a request only, and must relate to the social and emotional wellbeing of your child. It is not an opportunity to request a specific teacher. All teachers cater for the academic needs of each child, and we have the utmost confidence that all the staff here at Vermont Primary School will provide quality teaching and learning opportunities. Enormous time and effort goes into the placement of students, and our teachers know their students well enough to make the best choice for them in terms of their grade placement for the coming year.
If you would like to submit a request for consideration, please do so to the year level leader of your child's current year level no later than October 13th.

A huge thank you to all the parents that took the time to complete the Parent Opinion Survey online. The results of this survey have been released, and we are very proud that our school has seen an increase in all areas, in particular the areas of community engagement and participation, school communication and school improvement. These have been areas of focus for the school in the last 12 months and we are so pleased to see that the work being done by many is having an impact.
As we have mentioned in previous newsletters, next term we are so excited for our school production, 'What a Knight!'. This involves students from Years 3-6, and will be on the 31st of October and 1st of November at Crossways Theatre in Burwood. The students have been busily rehearsing dances, learning songs and for our main cast, learning lines! It is a huge event with so much effort from staff and students and we cannot wait to see the final result.
In previous years, students have paid a levy to be part of the production. This year, we are not doing this as we would prefer families used those funds to purchase tickets to come along and watch the production. We strongly encourage all parents to attend if they can, and support the school to run productions in the future through buying a ticket. We would love to have as many families as we can from Foundation - 2 attending as well! These moments are so very special in the lives of children, and having family to watch and support them from the crowd makes it even more special.
Students are expected to attend if they are involved, and we ask families to please not just drop children at the door and leave. If you have questions or concerns, please talk to your child's teacher. More information about ticket sales will be out in the first few weeks of Term 4.
It was a colourful playground today with all the children wearing colours from a variety of football codes. To add to their excitement, we had our amazing parents from the Community Network organise a special Hot Dog or Veggie Finger lunch. We would like to say a huge thank you to the parents that assisted today. Some of the members that attended are below.
Here are some more photos for you.
After quite a busy term, we wish you and your families a good break. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 2nd October.
