Careers & Pathways News

Dylan Wight MP - Year 12 Student Visit!

Dylan Wight, MP for Tarneit visited the College to address Year 12 students as they prepare for their transition and pathways beyond GNLC. During the discussion, Dylan addressed the range of projects and growth planned for the wider Wyndham area and also shared the importance of industries that will be most widely needed including health care, building and construction and community services. Dylan also shared his own career and study journey that encompassed a wide range of experiences and opportunities, many of these resonating with our students as they prepare for their future pathways.

Thank you, Dylan, for a very inspiring session with our students.

Meet the Employer

The GNLC Careers Hub recently hosted Guzmen Y Gomez, who spoke to students about employment opportunities with their company. Over 40 students attended and will hopefully enter their first part time job either after school or during the upcoming Christmas casual season.

Students are highly encouraged to engage in part-time/casual work. This does not necessarily need to be in the formal sense but could possibly include coaching a sporting team or volunteering at a local community organisation. Engaging in paid or unpaid work builds transferrable, employability skills, that include teamwork, communication, problem solving, along with time management and an understanding of different industries and entry level roles. Statistics prove that students who graduate from tertiary studies who are also engaged in employment are successful in obtaining full time employment four times faster. In 2024, we hope to expand our offering of Meet the Employer opportunities for our students at the college.
