Towards the end of October and into November, Ramsay St will be closed for works. It has been a very long wait for us, but finally the Moonee Valley Council will commence works to install angle parking and footpath along Ramsay St, as well as provide us with a supervised crossing on Ramsay St. Access to school via Ramsay St will be limited, with potentially only access via the gate next to the oval. We will know more once they begin work. Whilst the works scheduled for November are the very early stages, we are grateful that the project has now commenced and will be completed in stages over the coming months and into 2024. The length of time for this project is unknown, and we will keep everyone updated as best as possible.
We are well into Sunsmart season. Just a reminder that students require a Sunsmart hat to be able to freely play outside and participate in outdoor learning classes. All students have participated in a Sunsmart lesson, learning about UV light and how to best protect themselves. Students are reminded and encouraged to put on sunscreen before being outdoors. We ask that parents please provide their child with sunscreen and support them in learning to apply it correctly.
2024 Foundation:
We have officially held two 2024 Foundation Family Familiarization Sessions and our first student transition session. On the 8th of November, the Leadership and Foundation Teaching Team will be holding a Foundation parent/carer information night from 6-7:30pm. We encourage all families to attend this night, even if they have other children already attending the school, as information and processes are always evolving. During the session, a staffed play space will be set up for children who are unable to access care on the night.
2024 Year 7:
Moving from primary to secondary school is an important step in a child’s education. Our Year 6 teachers have been busy meeting with local public high schools to provide transition information about our students. Through these strong partnerships, we are able to work collaboratively to ensure a smooth transition for our students. All government secondary schools host their Year 7 Orientation Day (for Year 6 students) on Tuesday 12 December 2023. To learn more about how to support your child in this transition, please click here.
2024 Year 1-6:
Next week, information will be released on the class creation process and how you can support your child transitioning year levels. This term, cohorts will spend an increased amount of time together so that students have opportunities to mix and consider possibilities for next year. The 2024 Orientation Day, where students will meet their new teacher and class, will take place on the same day as the Year 7 transition -Tuesday 12th December. More information about classes and transition will be posted via Compass.
If you are planning on leaving Aberfeldie at the end of 2023, please let the school office know as soon as possible.
