Year 6 students have continued to build on their learning, and it has been fantastic to see their confidence, independence, and curiosity growing across all areas. They are engaging thoughtfully with their work and demonstrating a strong willingness to challenge themselves and share their ideas.
In Reading, students have been developing their comprehension skills with a focus on distinguishing between important and interesting information when summarising both fiction and non-fiction texts. They are learning how to identify key ideas and support them with relevant details, which is helping them to better understand and communicate what they read. It has been great to see students becoming more selective and purposeful in their summaries, as well as more confident in explaining their thinking.
In Writing, students have recently completed their poetry unit, where they focused on crafting sonnets. Their poems explored historical perspectives based on significant events in Australia, allowing them to combine creativity with their understanding of history. Students worked hard to incorporate poetic devices, structure, and descriptive language, and they should be proud of their final pieces. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and depth of thought shine through their writing.
In Numeracy, students have been introduced to statistics. They have been exploring different types of data, creating charts, and conducting surveys with their classmates on a range of topics. This has helped them understand how data can be collected, organised, and interpreted. Students have enjoyed the hands-on nature of this learning and are developing confidence in analysing and discussing their findings.
In Inquiry, students have been researching their own wonderings, asking thoughtful questions and investigating topics of personal interest. This has encouraged independence and critical thinking, as students take ownership of their learning and explore ideas in greater depth.
We are looking forward to some exciting events coming up in Term 2. The swimming program is set to start in Week 2 of next term. Alongside this, Interschool sports will be a highlight, giving students the opportunity to participate in a variety of events and demonstrate teamwork and sportsmanship. We commend our students in their achievements this term, and hope they enjoy a well deserved holiday!
