Learning and Teaching

MUSIC THIS TERM
This has been a great start to 2026, students were introduced to their new Teacher Dimitri, and began with a positive attitude, he has brought in his experiences to make the classes fun, interactive and Christ centred.
In Juniors, students began with learning to come out of their shell, they started singing songs as greetings to be more confident singers and to feel comfortable in their music environment. They also learned various songs and games to assist them in learning their first two Solfa sounds, So and Mi. They also learned various musical elements such as ‘loud’ and ‘soft’, ‘fast’ and slow, and rhythms such as Crochet (Ta), a Paired Quaver (Ti-Ti). In just one term fortnightly, they have developed these foundational skills, ready to take it to the next level in term two.
This term in Music, the Seniors have learnt about different rhythm patterns and how to clap them using the 'Kodaly' method. They have practiced saying and clapping 'ta', 'ti-ti' and 'za'. Ta represents a quarter note (one beat, single sound), while ti-ti represents paired eighth notes (one beat split into two fast sounds). "Za" is the rhythm syllable used for a quarter rest (a one-beat rest). We also call these rhythm patterns a Crochet (Ta), a Paired Quaver (Ti-Ti) and a Crotchet Rest (Za) which is one beat of silence.
The students then have had opportunities to work in small groups to compose their own 2 bar rhythm pattern in 4/4 timing and perform their composition to their peers using drums and djembe drums.
We look forward to continuing to develop the students' knowledge of the Music curriculum in Term 2.

BIKE EDUCATION
The students are gaining confidence when riding their bikes and the road rules around Lynbrook bike pathways and also using Banjo Paterson Bike Pathway. They are also gaining an understanding of what to anticipate while riding, recognizing the significance of safety, for example, pedestrians, other riders, and cars. It is crucial for the students to attentively follow instructions from the instructor and each other to ensure that everyone can enjoy the experience. Bike education serves as a means to instill in the students the importance of prioritizing safety above anything else. Furthermore, engaging in regular activities is crucial, as it contributes to the enhancement of fitness, health and overall well- being.

Parents who are attending to support their child, there will be a designated area for you to sit behind the Hall or behind LS2 near the sandpit. This is a great spot to view the start and finish of the races. Please feel free to bring chairs to sit on. We ask that parents remain in this area for the safety of our students.
There will be separate races for boys and girls in each age or grade level except the 8 year old race where girls and boys will run together. Students placing in the first ten will be awarded a ribbon and points for their House and those who are first in each race will have their names engraved on the perpetual school trophies that are kept in our trophy cabinet.
Students will be required to wear their sports uniform as they will be running, but we hope that they will wear a t-shirt that is in their house colour. They may also accessorise in their house colour. E.g. hair ribbons, socks, sweat bands, hair spray… They will also need to bring their drink bottle and hat and we suggest applying sunscreen in the morning before school. Please also remember to update your child’s profile on nForma and acknowledge the nForma notification.
