TAC Road Smart Interactive Program

Recently, our students participated in Road Smart Interactive, a new, evidence-based road safety education program available to Victorian secondary schools.

This highly engaging program used immersive technology to guide students through a series of interactive experiences, encouraging them to reflect on their role in making our roads safer and helping to reduce road trauma.

Road Smart Interactive includes elements adapted from the award-winning Road to Zero Experience at Melbourne Museum, providing students with a contemporary and impactful learning experience.

Students in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 took part in the program and gained valuable insights into road safety.

Harmony Day

Students celebrated Harmony Day by recognising and embracing the diversity within our school community. It was a great opportunity to promote inclusion, respect and a sense of belonging for all.

As part of Harmony Day, students participated in The Resilience Project GEM activity, focusing on Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. The sessions encouraged positive thinking and meaningful reflection.

Performing Arts

The Performing Arts Department has had a great start to the year!

Last week was our first Dungeon Concert. Students performed everything from the piano, to guitar, and even a song about our favorite bird, the Ibis! It was a great crowd for our students as we celebrated some VCE performances as well as some students’ first performance ever!

Coming up in Term 2, the Performing Arts Department is putting on ‘A Night Under the Stars’ a play featuring various funny camping scenarios, all narrated by our fearless Park Rangers played by Elizabeth Welst (Taylor) and Logan Grace (Clark). The performance will be held on May 14th at 7pm in the Baimbridge Gym.

They’re creepy and they’re spooky and all together cooky! This year’s production of the Addams Family is already underway with rehearsals starting next term. Thank you to all of the students who auditioned, and congratulations to the cast!

Stay tuned for performance dates and where to buy tickets.

Year 12 Dress Up Day

On Friday 27 March, our Year 12 students enjoyed a fun dress-up day, choosing costumes that began with the first letter of their name. It was great to see their creativity and enthusiasm on display.

Baimbridge Bandicoots Basketball

Womens

The Baimbridge Bandicoots had a very successful season in the Hamilton Basketball Association Division 1/2 Women. The bandicoots finished third, after narrowly missing out on a spot in Division 2 final. The team included Edie Jackson, who rarely missed a show, Mrs Macgugan, who was a steady head and had a deadly mid- and long-range shot, Ayla Ewing was strong under the ring and a play maker, Oliva Bell was a handy tall who could run all game,  Layla Slater was physical player that was always first to the ball, Sophie was a  solid defender with a good midrange shot, but sadly missed some games due to injury, Mrs Churchill loved to put pressure on the ball and racked up the assists, and lastly Meki Churchill joined the team mid-season, injecting a touch of class to the well-rounded side. Thank you to the parents, and to Hana and Annie for helping on the score bench, and to Mr. Churchill for coaching.

Mens

This Baimbridge Bandicoot Men proved that they could match it with Hamilton’s best, competing hard every week and showing strong improvement in all aspects of their game. The side narrowly missed out on the Division 2A final, losing the semi-final by 12 points. While success didn’t appear in wins, it manifested itself through playing hard right up to the final whistle and the players enjoyed each and every one of the 40 minutes played. Past students; Lachie ‘Chook’ Neild, and Diesel Slater lead the way under the right with their athleticism and attack on the ring, while past School Captain, Ontaj Gould, was the play maker finding passes before others know they were there. The boys are all looking forward to the next season where one team will become 2.

Year 8 Food

From the lowest lows of yolk compromised Wattle Seed Pavs to the dizzying heights of re-enacting Lady and the Tamp with Spaghetti Bolognese, Year 8 have thrown themselves into cooking with gusto. It is impressive to see so many confident and competent cooks. It is also impressive to see many willing beginners. It is impressive to see students helping their peers and sharing their knowledge. Cooking is a skill for life, and Year 8 are learning a lot while savouring new recipes and flavours.

Year 7 Resistant Materials (wood, metal, plastics)

All 3 Year 7 groups have explored colour acrylic sheet, making a bag tag using an initial as their design. Students generated different design ideas, negotiated the letter, who it is for and selected a range of opaque colour combinations. They used coping saws, files and finally wet and dry sandpaper to cut, refine and polish the acrylic. Students then drilled a hole using a cordless drill and threaded a stainless steel cable to enable this product to hang from a backpack or keyring.

I am so impressed with the time, care and effort all three groups have demonstrated. The finished quality of the work is outstanding!

The year 7's are enthusiastic and creative, and already embody the school values of Pride, Courage and Respect. Next term students will make a windchime using folded sheet metal, aluminium tube, timber (pine) and transparent acrylic. I am excited to see what the students come up with!
