Grade Two Writing

The Year Twos have been working hard with their Writing this Term. They have been learning about the elements and structure of Information Reports and different styles of Poetry. Whilst exploring the concept of life, students learnt all about chickens and wrote information reports about them. During Poetry, students explored various poetry styles such as Limericks, Cinquains, Kennings and Colour Poems. All students should be very proud of their achievements this Term!

Chickens

A chicken is a bird that we use for meat, eggs and feathers. Chickens have short wings and a heavy body, this makes it hard for them to fly. Male chickens are called roosters, they usually have brighter coloured feathers. Female chickens are called hens and are usually brown or white. Chickens have this thing called a wattle, its a skin that hangs from their throat. Chickens also have a piece of skin that sticks up from the top of their head, this is called a comb. Farmers keep chickens inside buildings and are fed grain and corn. Chickens roost inside at night, this helps them be safe. Did you know that hens can lay over 200 egg a year? Fun fact, A T-Rex is a relative of a chicken!
