Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents and friends,

It’s hard to believe that we have come to the end of Term 3.

When we reflect on the term that has been, it is no wonder we are all exhausted and well and truly ready for a break.

I’m sure many of you have been following Mrs. Carr's amazing journey on the Camino.

She certainly has done herself (and St. Brendan’s) proud.  Sue is walking between 14 km to 25 km a day, which is no easy feat.

When you look at the photos, you get a sense of the wonder and awe that is present along the journey.

Mrs Carr is connecting with the students daily and the students have their pebbles to connect with Mrs Carr.

We are looking forward to reflecting and learning from Mrs  Carr when she returns, on day one of Term 4.

School Uniform

I would like to thank you for your support regarding students wearing the correct school uniform.

We have seen fewer white-sole runners and students wearing the correct jumpers and soft-shell jackets.

We will continue to focus on the school uniforms during Term 4, in particular excess jewellery.

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, when we return to school, we will allow students to wear either their full winter or full summer uniform for the first three weeks. (We all know we can get a cold blast in October.)

If you require additional uniform pieces, the uniform shop is open every Friday morning.  Alternatively, you can get an order form from the office.

Production Moana Jr.

The countdown to Moana Jnr is undoubtedly on.

I had the pleasure of my first glimpse of the production during Friday's dress rehearsal.

The costumes and props were amazing, not to mention the talent that was on display. The anticipation around the place is electrifying.  I can not wait for everyone to see the show.

If you have any questions about production, please email Emma Chapple:

Director, extraordinaire     echapple@sbsomerville.catholic.edu.au

Child Safety/Respectful Relationship:

I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your assistance.

The teachers across the school have been facilitating discussions around ‘Private parts, private places'. The reason for this is, recently we have noticed an increase in students engaging in, inappropriate behaviour and/or talk. For example: tapping someone on the bottom, pulling pants down, etc.

Knowing the difference between public and private places is an essential skill your child needs to learn in order to keep safe.

Teachers have delivered a Respectful Relationship lesson on  ‘Consent’ and ‘No, means no.’

If you could reinforce these important messages with your children, it would be greatly appreciated.

MACSSIS Survey:

Every year we ask for feedback about the school from:

  • Students
  • Teachers
  • Parents

You should have received an email today.  If you have already completed the survey- thank you very much.

If you would like to complete the survey, you have until Friday 15 September to do so.

We appreciate your feedback on the everyday operations of the school.

Lost Property:

Currently, there are many items in the lost property basket located in the staffroom.

We have returned items with names on them.  If you purchase a second-hand item, please rename it to the current owner.

Any items that remain in the basket at the end of term, will be donated to the second-hand uniform shop.

Now that the weather is becoming warmer, it is wise to have all items clearly labeled as children tend to take tops off and forget to collect them after play.

Footy Day:

As Melbourne is engulfed in Final Footy Fever, St Brendan’s is preparing their very own Footy Day.  Friday 15 September, the students will be involved in activities, prepared by our House Captains.

Students are welcome to wear their team's colours, jerseys, scarves, (and runners) so they can participate in comfort.

The Footy parade will take place on the basketball court.  Parents are welcome to attend, starting at 12.15 pm - concluding at 1.00pm for the beginning of the school holidays.

I believe there are a few prizes up for grabs.

Finally- Go Blues.  I dare to dream!

Have a fantastic, well-deserved break.

Bernie Turner
