One of the highlights of the school year is just around the corner, Book Week! This year it’s being held from the 19th to the 25th of August and the theme is Read, Grow, Inspire. Vermont Primary School will hold its annual Book Week parade on Monday 21st August. All students are encouraged to dress up as a character from a book of their choice. Be as creative as you like with this!
We are so excited to announce that Evie from 0CW has completed her treatment and will be able to return to school very soon! Woohoooo!
To ensure that our classrooms stay safe, we ask that you make sure to keep your children at home whenever they shown signs of illness such as sore throat, runny nose and cough. If your child has gastro symptoms (vomiting/diarrhoea) they must be kept home for 48 hours from their last sign of symptoms (vomiting or diarrhea).
These are the same rules that we always have in place, but we ask that families take extra precautions to ensure the safety of everyone in our community. If your child shows any signs of illness we will be phoning you to pick them up from school.
Thank you for your cooperation!
A reminder that if you arrive late to school, you MUST sign your child in at the office then walk with them to their classroom. We are frequently in places other than our own classroom in the mornings, which means there is no teacher in the room to let your child know where to go. The bell rings at 8.57am each morning and we find that students who are lined up and ready when the bell rings are more settled and confident coming into school.
Bookings for interviews will be open on Sentral on August 21st. If you would like an interpreter to attend your interview, we can organise one. Please just let us know what date and time you have booked and what language.
We are excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Family Maths Night on the 31st of August. This event promises to be an evening filled with exciting games, engaging talks, and interactive activities that will make mathematics a fun experience for the whole family!
The Family Maths Night will take place on Thursday the 31st of August from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at school. We have carefully planned a variety of math-related games and talks to ensure there's something enjoyable and educational for everyone. This event aims to foster a positive attitude towards math and encourage a love for problem-solving in our students and their families.
In order to tailor the event to your preferences, please access the link below. This link will allow you to select your preferences for the talks and games you'd like to participate in during the Family Maths Night.

From Monday 4th September to Friday 8th September, we will be celebrating Science Week at VPS. Three special events for students and families have been planned.
On Wednesday, Year 5 and 6 ‘Scientists’ will be leading three science related activities for the rest of the school’s students to participate in. Between recess and lunch, the students will move with their class between three different activities across the whole school, to experience different aspects of science, such as circuits, chemical reactions and the making of bath bombs!
Thursday of science week will bring an amazing incursion to VPS – the Jollybops Science show. More information has been emailed to you, and payment details are now available on Qkr!. Payment is due for all students by Thursday 31st August.
Science week concludes with our whole school Science Expo on Friday 8th September. Parents and carers are invited to come and experience each year level’s exploration of science and associated displays. The Expo will be open for families to view from 3pm until 5pm in the school stadium.
This term, we are learning about Toys. We will be learning about the history of toys and how they have changed over time. Also, we will be learning how toys move and get to plan and build our own toys. As part of this, we need lots and lots of boxes! Can you please start collecting boxes at home to bring to school next term? These boxes can be any size – cereal boxes, toothpaste boxes, paper towel rolls, soap boxes, biscuit boxes etc. Please do not send in any egg cartons, medicine boxes or toilet rolls.
We spent some time with our buddies this week where we learned about levers. The students made 2 toys with levers - a catapult and a moving rocket ship.
We have been so pleased to see some of our Foundation students showing initiative and helping keep the school grounds tidy. Shout out to our regular play time rubbish collectors!
