Internationally Respected Chef gets Students Cooking

A group of keen hospitality students in Years 10-12, as well as some students from Monterey Secondary College, had the opportunity to participate in a commercial cookery demonstration by Culinary Consultant and Group Executive Chef Darren McKinlay, from the JBS Hospitality and Events Group. JBS Hospitality and Events Group is one of Melbourne’s largest hospitality and event companies with several hotels, restaurants, bars, and cafes located in and around Melbourne.

Students created a variety of pasta dishes under Darren’s expert guidance and were able to demonstrate their own skills in the process. This was an initiative organised by HeadStart in collaboration with Patterson River Secondary College as a part of their industry immersion experiences. Some of the students have been inspired to pursue careers in hospitality and two of these students are undertaking school-based apprenticeships in Commercial Cookery.
