Science Week

At the start of August, our STEAM Team celebrated National Science Week with the 2023 theme Innovation: Powering Future Industries. We conducted a series of activities during lunchtimes.

On Tuesday we had Kahoots with the theme of a famous scientist and general science questions, everyone learnt new information from these Kahoots even if they didn’t win!

On Thursday there was slime-making where students melted down polymer plastics in the labs to create a slime. At the same time over in our STEAM Centre, we had chalk pens and could write on the windows with fun facts, information and general science theme art for our fellow students to see as they walk past!

Friday lunchtime was experiment day, starting off with elephant toothpaste in the courtyard where students had the opportunity to give it a go themselves. Additionally, we had pop rockets flying off in the courtyard, which were little film canisters with antacid tablets and water in the bottom, students also decorated paper in their own unique way to give the rockets a bit of personalisation. In turn, the tables reacted to form carbon dioxide gas and propel the student’s creation into the skies.

Science Week 2023 was an amazing success. We hope all the students enjoyed the activities and a massive thank you to all the staff who helped us along the way!!
