Principal's Message

Dear MGSC School Community

My message this week is focused on one of our school values, Empowerment. The student leaders at our school, demonstrate this every day. This year it was evident with the Year Level Assemblies. As I walked around the school visiting each of the assemblies what I noticed was how confident and well-prepared our students were across all the year levels as they introduced the guest speakers for the day or presented them to the students themselves.

What does that look like in our classrooms though and how do students demonstrate genuine regard for their peers. In our MGSC Values Statement students become empowered why they motivate and lift others, take on responsibility, share their ideas and opinions and make the best use of their class time.

So, what does that sound like in a classroom? Students are empowered when they take responsibility for their learning and actions and demonstrate a positive mindset. They are empowered when they encourage their peers to continue to push themselves further. They speak up when they see someone being unsupported and they ask for help if needed.

When students are empowered, they tap into their inner strength and power. They feel confident and comfortable in their own abilities. They feel that their opinions and contributions are values, and they feel supported.

At MGSC Empowerment is not simply something that we apply to ourselves. Empowerment is also about supporting others to be empowered. It is the belief that everyone has a right to feel safe, respected and valued.

I encourage all our students to ponder on this value and consider how they can own and share that value with others.

Welcome Indy

We look forward to welcoming Indy (springer spaniel) to our school community in coming months. Indy is an assistance dog trained by Dogs for Life and will be accompanied at school by her handler, Cristy Savage.

You may notice her around the school campus, and we ask that you be respectful of her assistance dog status. Should you have any queries or concerns please contact me via the general office mentone.girls.sc@education.vic.gov.au.

You may also see members of the Dogs for Life team on the school grounds as they help Indy get properly introduced to our school environment.
