VCE Physical Education Class

Bounce and exploring fitness components and energy systems

In a twist to their traditional classroom routine, the VCE Physical Education class attended Bounce. The outing wasn't just about having fun – it was a hands-on lesson in identifying and applying fitness components across diverse activities. Students participated in activities like trampolining, rock climbing, navigating the assault course, and engaging in a spirited game of dodgeball.

By drawing connections to their previous units on energy systems, students gained a deeper insight into how these systems came into play during each activity. The excitement of bouncing in sync with the anaerobic energy system and scaling the climbing walls powered by muscular endurance, all contributed to a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between fitness and energy systems. The Bounce excursion not only provided a memorable experience but also reinforced the practical application of theoretical concepts, ensuring an engaging approach to physical education for our VCE students.

Outdoor Education

Year 9 Dive into Outdoor Education at Mentone Beach

Last week, our Year 9 Outdoor Education class took a walk to our local beach, blending both fun and responsibility during their lesson. The activities began with team building games where students demonstrated their collaboration skills and highlighted the importance of effective communication between peers.

The activities then transitioned into a beach clean-up exercise. Armed with gloves and bags, the students combed the sand and surrounding bushland, picking up litter and learning firsthand about the impact of human waste on our local ecosystems. This hands-on experience instilled a deepened understanding of environmental responsibility and promoted a newfound respect for our local surroundings.

Year 10 Outdoor Education

Connection to Country session at the Royal Botanic Gardens

On Wednesday 23 August the Year 10 Outdoor Education class went to the Royal Botanical Gardens to walk through their ‘Connection to Country’ session ran by Indigenous Australian guide Jakobi. We learnt all about the local natives planted in the area, their uses both medicinal and practical. We learnt about European settlement and the changes that need to occur in the gardens due to climate change/ global warming and got to see and hear about traditional hunting tools.
