Principal's Report

Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2023

We have had another wonderful two weeks at Rangeview Primary and it has been so lovely to see the weather warming up and the students engaging in more outside activities.

This fortnight we have had Level 4 Camp, Regional Netball finals, Level 1 and 2 on excursion to Como House,  our Book Fair and the annual Book Parade Day, Level 3 CERES excursion, and our bi-annual Level 5/6 Production! What a Fortnight, What a Knight!

NAPLAN 2023

This week the State and National NAPLAN data was released and you may have heard reports in the media around concerns for students learning and progress overall. Although these concerns maybe well founded for some states and some schools, the overall Victorian results were incredibly strong in comparison to other states and the Rangeview results were remarkable in comparison to other schools.

Please see the Teaching and Learning page in this newsletter for some comparison data.

Level 5/6 Production - What a Knight

A castle full of colourful characters join in the fun, including precocious princesses, a talking dragon - and not forgetting Merlin and his magic mirror! When young squire Watt Cobblers is expelled from Knight School, he reluctantly becomes Merlin's new apprentice. But trouble is never far away, and soon Camelot Castle collapses into chaos. Merlin has lost Excalibur, King Arthur's daughters have been kidnapped and his brave knights have turned into chickens. Watt and his new found friends Dusty Dragon and wayward Princess Alice set off on the biggest quest of their lives. But can our unlikely heroes rescue the princesses, save Excalibur and defeat the evil Black Knight? The answers are found in Rangeview’s 2024 production, where everyone is guaranteed to sing a lot, dance a lot and laugh a lot... at Camelot!

The sheer amount of work that has gone into the preparation for this years School Production, is nothing short of a wonder! Everything from choreography, costumes, makeup, props, stage management, coaching, sound and lights – the list is endless.

I acknowledge the incredible work of the combined ‘Production Team’ in the two nights of the Production itself, and also the months of rehearsals leading up to the big opening night. This massive undertaking is predominantly the work of Miss Megan Campbell and Mrs Deirdree Geilings with the support of the Level 5/6 team and other specialist teachers. We thank them and congratulate them. The contributions of our wonderful Parents & Friends have ensured that costumes, props and staging is organised and ready to roll and we extend our heartfelt thanks.

Prior to the evening performances we held matinee performances at school with both casts in front of the Levels F – 4 students. The juniors were so appreciative of this opportunity, and it set eyes alight with anticipation for their turn in the limelight!

We were so proud to show our community this amazing production – the audience left  exclaiming ‘What a Knight!’

Level 4 Camp

For three days Wednesday 9th August to Friday 11th August, our Level 4 students adventured at Camp Weekaway in Benloch. The students were simply outstanding on this camp with everyone participating with enthusiasm in every activity and supporting peers to do the same.

I extend my thanks to the parent volunteers who come for the duration of the camp and were just marvellous with supporting the students to take part in the outdoor adventure activities. I also thank the Level 4 team and the Rangeview Leadership team for their work to make this camp such a success.

Book Parade Day

What an amazing range of outstanding costumes we have seen today at the Annual Book Parade Day! From Hedwig to Hermione, from Thing 1 and Thing 2 to Runt. From Dr Seuss to Rainbow Magic.

I would like to thank Deidree Geilings and Lynette Ellis for running such an excellent parade assembly, the Library Captains - Isabel Wong and Kirsten Phuah - for assisting and judging, the fabulous ES team who all came today as Paddington Bear, the teachers and other staff across the school for getting into the spirit of the day and wearing such amazing costumes, the Leadership Team for joining me in our Hogwarts theme, and the Rangeview Community for stepping up once again and making this a magical day for our students.

It really is days such as these that build childhood memories for our students and hopefully, fosters a love of reading and literature.

Community Police Notices

Last week I attended the first meeting of the new Police/Whitehorse Schools Crime Prevention Community of Practice. This Victoria Police initiative will allow regular communication between local schools and the police force and will enable us to keep our community aware of local issues and ways to keep safe.

Please see below for some excellent information around preventing theft of motor vehicles.
