50 plus years of the Parent Association
When it comes to schools in Australia the notion of a parent association is usually related to fund raising and community events. But the essential Association at MECS is the Association for Christian Education Mount Evelyn Inc. This Association owns the school and owns the vision. This Association has been seeking the Kingdom of God in Education since the late 1950s – of course prior to the school opening in 1973 this was expressed in making and implementing plans. This Association is joined today by parents and staff that make a deliberate choice to respond to the call of our Overarching story.
In the world around us the overarching story might be about getting a good job, or gaining prestige, or consuming, or whatever, but our founding pioneers rejected these stories. To keep the story alive for the next 50 plus years requires a healthy Association. We commit ourselves in this anniversary year to maintain it, to be faithful to it, and to guide the development of the story as society changes and presents new challenges and demands. In other words, the Association holds out to the community that the Biblical narrative of redemption and the coming of God’s Kingdom is the story that informs and shapes every aspect of the life of the school.
If you’d like to step up and join the Association, get in touch with Jenny Taylor or a Board member.
