Primary Music Recital

On Thursday 31 August we had our first Primary Recital and Ensembles Concert. The number of instrumental students has now grown so large that a whole school recital evening is no longer possible, and we have several Primary School ensembles that deserved a performance opportunity to showcase the work they have put in over the last couple of terms.

We began with some of our youngest performers in the Junior Choir singing about what it means to be Australian in the current day of diverse cultures and nationalities and followed that with some instrumental performances on piano and guitar. One Year 2 student even performed his own composition! The evening continued with performances on guitar, drums, and clarinet, and featured other ensembles involving our older primary students. The Recorder Gang, Senior Primary Band and MP/SP gave enthusiastic renditions of their musical offerings, and the audience were thrilled by the opportunity to join in with Livin’ on a Prayer, played by three Year 6 boys and their instrumental teacher Mr Greenwood.

The Theatrette was packed with parents, grandparents, family friends and supportive students and even though we ran over our advertised time, their applause at the end for the final combined choir item was just as enthusiastic as it was at the beginning of the evening.

We would like to thank Daniel Chatelier and Neil Garner (staff) for doing the sound for the evening, and Jake Kuzma (Year 5) for doing the lighting for the whole event. He did an outstanding job despite stepping in at the very last minute. Also, we would like to thank our amazing instrumental tutors for the work they put in to prepare our students, not just musically, but in helping them to overcome their nerves. Finally, we would like to thank all the families that attended – having such a responsive and supportive audience makes it so much easier for the students to overcome anxiety, and the sense of joy that was evident throughout the night was a blessing to everyone.
