Mental Health and Wellbeing at ENPS

Welcome back to school! We hope our students and families had a restful break and are feeling refreshed for the exciting year ahead. It’s great to reconnect with our school community, and we’re committed to supporting the wellbeing of every student. As students settle back into school life, we’ve introduced a range of engaging wellbeing activities to help build their personal and social capabilities. Here are some of the highlights:

Creating a Positive Classroom Environment

Students have taken an active role in setting up and organising their classrooms, giving them a sense of ownership, independence, and motivation. This helps create a strong sense of belonging right from the start.

Establishing Essential Agreements

Together, students and teachers have developed essential agreements - setting clear expectations for a respectful and supportive learning environment where everyone can thrive.

Respectful Relationships

Through the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships curriculum, students are learning about emotional literacy - recognising and naming emotions, understanding how others feel, and showing kindness in their interactions.

The Resilience Project

Students are building emotional skills through The Resilience Project, focusing on gratitude, empathy, mindfulness, and emotional literacy.

School-Wide Positive Behaviours

Students have reflected on our School-Wide Positive Behaviours Matrix, thinking about how they can demonstrate safety, kindness, and respect in their daily actions.

The Zones of Regulation

Through ‘The Zones of Regulation’, students are learning valuable strategies for managing their emotions and behaviours, helping them develop self-regulation and problem-solving skills.

‘Who We Are’ Unit of Inquiry

Our ongoing ‘Who We Are’ unit of inquiry fosters cooperation, collaboration, and community building. These inquiry lessons help students form strong relationships with their classmates.

Resilience and Growth Mindset

Students are exploring the power of perseverance and resilience, learning how to face challenges with confidence and a positive mindset.

How Parents Can Support Wellbeing at Home

Parents play a key role in reinforcing positive wellbeing strategies. Here are some simple ways to support your child at home:

  • Encourage Open Conversations: Create a safe space for your child to express their thoughts and emotions. Dedicate time daily to talk about their school day.

  • Model Positive Behaviour: Demonstrate kindness, resilience, and problem-solving in everyday situations.

  • Support Emotional Regulation: Help your child recognise their emotions and practise calming strategies like deep breathing or mindfulness.

  • Reinforce a Growth Mindset: Praise effort over outcomes and encourage persistence when facing challenges.

  • Promote Healthy Routines: Make sure your child gets enough sleep, eats well, and has time to relax and play.

  • Limit Screen Time: Encourage a healthy balance by setting boundaries on screen use and promoting outdoor play, reading, and creative activities.

We’re excited for the year ahead and look forward to working with families to support student wellbeing. Throughout the year, we’ll continue to share the wonderful learning opportunities that help children build positive mental health and wellbeing.
