Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!
Welcome back to Performing Arts!
It’s so great to be back in the Performing Arts space after the school holidays and to meet all the new 2025 classes.
During the start-up week of Term One, we looked at how we will apply the School Wide Positive Behaviours (being Safe, Kind and Respectful) in the Performing Arts Space through various activities. We played an ‘ice-breaker’ game called ‘Traffic Lights’ to practise moving safely around the space and we discussed other ways of being safe in Performing Arts as well.
Students also had a go at performing a short, improvised scenario that showed an act of kindness, such as ‘Holding the door for someone’ or ‘Helping a new student’. During these performances, students were practising being kind by working together in groups as well as being respectful audience members.
Each student signed each school value with their name and agreed to uphold these values in Performing Arts. Please see the photos below.
This semester, Morgan King will be joining me in Performing Arts again, teaching one of the Foundation classes. She’s better known as one of the Mandarin teachers, however she has a lot of previous experience teaching Performing Arts as well!
All year levels will have the same central idea for Term One Drama - ‘We can combine our body movements, facial expressions, gestures and voice to create a drama performance’ - but we will be exploring different topics.
The year level term topics are:
Foundation - Expressive Skills
Year One and Two - Devising Drama
Year Three and Four - Non-Naturalistic Drama
Year Five and Six - Creating and Presenting Drama Games
If you have any questions about the term or year ahead please come and see me in the Performing Arts Space!
